But most people don't game on a PC. People can build a powerful pc right now and play all the best selling games on xbox one and ps4 significantly better in graphics and fps.

Then why has playstation dominated 3 out of 4 gens? According to the Internet, it has the inferior network and controller so it can't be those reasons.

Because of third party with psone and ps2. Ps3 fucked up signifcantly with price, but still has the big brand name (especially in Europe) to keep it alive. Even the best selling games on ps3 are 3rd party. Ps4 sony got the price right and sony playstation brand name is huge. Sony started at the right moment where people still associate games like FF,MGS,RE, ect as playstation games.

Are you lot really bringing the entire justification for owning an XB1 down to LIVE and the controller? That's very dangerous and exactly what MS want you to do. Once LIVE and the controller is all that defines Xbox then you can be better herded towards the PC.

Also, you can't compare previous generations because developer have always locked down settings on consoles because consoles were never aimed to be like PC in terms of scaling and generations with seperate games was still a thing. Not to mention each generation had way different architectures making where consoles like xbox one has to resort to emulations. If xbox scropio is just a closed pc and Microsoft goes the route of No more generations, this could mean games will be forward and backward compatiable with games scaling depending on hardware.

You can because they still will, locking down a particular configuration for a particular console and optimizing for it is what makes games run well, and it's something that will always be done for fixed platform systems

The only way that will EVER change, is if consoles became modular, which the scorpio isn't
The scorpio will be treated exactly the same as the ps4pro, just another fixed platform to optimize for.

The sooner you understand this the better, optimizing for a fixed platform is preffered by developers, because they can have much better control over the end product, games that do not optimize for a fixed platform stand out a mile because the quality of such games is terrible.

You are completely wrong in what you believe, and would benefit greatly by spending a few days actually reading developer blogs and literiture.

No more generations does not mean a fluid platform that runs the exact same software as PC, it means that future versions of consoles will have games that still run on the older hardware - and this is achieved by extensive profiling of previous generation consoles, and optimizing for these profiles to squeeze every last drop of performance out.

Scorpio is obviously just going to be a pc that is closed off. When scorpio 2 comes out in 3-4 years, it can run the same original scorpio games at higher graphics, just like pc with newer hardware. Phil wants PC and Xbox one to work together thus the whole play anywhere. As long as you in MIcrosoft's ecosystem, they're happy. Thats what I see from Phil and the push for windows 10 and xbox play anywhere.

It's simply a combination of variables. Brand, exclusives, 3rd party, peripherals, and so on. Put them in whatever order you want.

Not just that. I personally enjoy xbox exclusives like Halo and Gears because I'm a multiplayer type of person. However,I'm just going based on what I see is the popular games that sell the most. Microsoft wants power, price , xbox live and controller to be incentives for sure.

Exclusives are the most important feature of any console when it comes to 'selling point'. Just search your soul and ask yourself: 'Would this argument even exist if the XB1 had as many exclusives as the PS4?' No.

Nier, Nioh, Gravity Rush 2, Kingdom hearts, Tales of Basteria, Horizon zero dawn, Yakuza 0 and others are all reasons to buy a PS4 over other rival consoles. you're just fooling yourself if you think they're not.

You seem to be mixing up third party, exclusive and multi platform with each other. Thread title states exclusives, says nothing about whether or not it's first or third party; aside from that, all PlayStation consoles have had third party exclusives in abundance as well so my point remains. The only thing we've seen that put PlayStation behind is coming to market a year late at a $600 price point.

And, uh, people associate FF or MGS or GTA with PlayStation because they were exclusive at one point and it just so happens that many of these brands literally got their start/fame on this platform. (Kingdom Hearts for example).  We have yet to see Microsoft invest in a serious first party and we have yet to see them win a generation despite being more competitive than ever before this gen. Price cuts, adding in BC, firesales, a stupid amount of promotion (they spent nearly twice as much on advertising this Christmas than Sony only to fall short in NPD) and yet.... Microsoft shares almost all the big AAA multi platform games as Sony. Assuming multiplaform parity, what advantage does Sony have? Oh wait. It's exclusives.

They're very niche games outside of zero dawn that doesn't sell well or appeal to the masses or me. I can state sea of theives, forza, crackdown, city skyline, path of exile, state of decay 2, halo wars 2 and more from this year alone, not all of those games are going to appeal to the masses or excactly appeal to me. Judging the video game sales on those games, they don't appeal or attract too many people. I remember you hyped disagea 5 and that game didn't sell well at all after two years. Most ps4 owners buy big third party games. Why not focus making the experience for those games better on your platform. That is what most people are playing.

Competitive advantage... offer something that ithers doesn't. Make it your selling point.

What you're doing is preparing the way for your argument when the Scorpio releases, just as Crapgamer is. 'Better third party games' is what you fear will be your only argument and so you're framing your mindset around that concept ready for the release of the Scorpio.

You are the knights that say 'niche'.
