I still plan to take a language course for japanese, maybe sometime this year.

 

Good luck learning Japanese. My brother has been studying the language for 30 years, has a Japanese wife from Japan, and says that when she speaks really fast he cant understand a word she is saying.

OT: I honestly belive Nintendo never thought people would like to listen to the Japanese VA while reading English subtitles. Please forgive them, they live in a very sheltered world. If people send their complaints to Nintendo, maybe they can get with the 21st century.

Terribly sorry to be the one to tell you, but your brother must be pretty bad at languages, lol.

OT: Does anyone know how easy/hard it will be to just set your European Switch to Japanese settings? Is it something you can do on the fly, or is it a one-time decision thing? Can you have different language settings on different logins? How does it work with previous Nintendo consoles? I've never tried to switch regions on them before, I've never had to.

Well, my brother is a IT professional by trade and not a linguist, so there is an exception in his case.

OT: From what I have read, it seems you just set your region on Switch in the UI and it changes the game settings for you. But no one really knows until they actually own the system.

As someone who didn't even want voice acting in the first place, playing the game with japanese audio was going to be my saving grace, but now this will make the experience as good as watching dubbed anime. It will suck, basically.

Japanese would be language number 5 for me. I learned: Polish, german, english and french, but forget french, it's a language I have no use for, and can't speak it.

Japanese on the other way seems pretty easy to speak, Kanji is a different kind of problem, but I really like this language. Therefore, I need to do it!

Nintendo lives in a lot of sheltered worlds would be my guess.

While it should be an easy option to add for those who want it, I don't care, personally.

The English dub sounds perfectly fine, and I actually strongly prefer it over the Japanese one, which, sorry to say, sounds absolutely terrible.

The dub/voiceacting isn't that good in the germanic language family, as the languages when spoken aren't dynanic, but rather monotonic. In a way, I can see where you're coming from. 

Well that could be the case but Germany also doesn't have a long history of voice acting like some other countries.  In the US voice acting goes back to the early days of radio and pre dates sound in the movies.  Most early TV shows in the US where either based on radio shows or started out as radio shows.  Plus radio shows also influenced a lot of early sound cinema in the US.
