Forums - Nintendo - Switch: 8 accounts on a system, choose region at account creation, game cards read-only (Kotaku)

what the game cart can't save now that is retarded.

No, this is only good news. The rewritable portion of a game card is more expensive. This means the Switch cartridges will be cheaper without the rewritable part and we will see larger capacity game cards sooner.

Hey! They got SONY on my amiibo! Wait a minute. Two great gaming tastes that game great together!

not saving to game card is most likely a result of trying to prevent piracy via savegame exploits.
As one of the big vulnerabilities for the 3DS is things like OOThax, cubehax, etc.

I don't care if the cartridges are cheaper, it's not like they're lowering the price of games because of it. I prefer being able to save on the card itself.

But even on the 3DS games like Tomodachi Life only saved some of the data on the game cartridge. The rest of the save data went to internal storage. I know this from experience, owning both a 3DS and 2DS and using the same cartridge on both systems.

don't care. i've grown up used to a standard. this s goign backwards for Nintendo.

and to think at the start of the gen i wanted them to implement hybrid cards to tackle the space issue.

64gb cart = 40gb for game 24gb for DLC and patches and save files. how awesome would that be??? no more worried about console internal space.

Even 3DS cards couldn't save DLC. To enable cards to be overwritten with patches and DLC would require the cards to be rewritable, which would make them way more expensive than the read-only cards Nintendo has been using in their portables.

well yer but this is 2017 tech improves. think outside the square. it would have been a selling point for gamers.

This is huge because this meens updates from games need to be saved to the internal memory and I have had updates of many GBs on my PS4 and PC so this will really limit what the system can do, or it makes it more expensive when you need to buy those extra Gbs yourself, 256GB SD card would be the minimum here and it would need fast speeds or the games performance might decrease, what a blow again

I was actually expecting there to be some room for saves AND updates and really tought this was one of their main advantages, but as it stands its a disadvantage now. Because the console becomes the worst media center with no blue ray drive and also the cards will prob. be more expensive to produce then discs.

They might also be slower then the harddrives in the consoles and then its going to make ports again, harder and horrible

No Wonder why third party will leave again

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

So a step down from 3DS cards then as they were able to hold save data. Not a big deal, but that 32GB looks even smaller now. Even one who mostly buys physical is likely going to need a Micro SD card. Now the Switch is basically $400 before I even buy a game. =/

8 accounts on a single system = cool. the big thing is always the region free, so that we can get those japanese games. :)

not an issue for me on the cartridge, never been. :)

The different account thing is awesome! Now I can have a Japanese account too, incase they get region specific games. I never expected this to happen, so this is a pleasant surprise. Also, it sounds like it's pretty easy to increase the size of space for the system, and I hear SD cards are more affordable these days, so perhaps space for the system won't be problematic, which sounds good.
