Forums - Gaming - Xbox One Scorpio and PS4 Pro Graphics lets talk about this

I bought a 4k television a year ago and I havn't really used the HDR or 4K too much for me the scorpio purchase will change this, I love movies so I will buy some of my favourites on UHD and I really want the games I bought digitally on PC (gears, forza, recore) and give them a spin on a more powerful Device.

My pc has a 780GTX so I am quite sure the scorpio should be a step up :)

Call me crazy, but I think these "upgrades" aren't designed to "extend" the current generations but rather to secure an existing userbase.

I expect the PS5/XB2 to hit the market around 2020. But the difference is that I believe the PS4/XB1 would remain as forward compatible consoles. So even when the PS5 is getting its games the current PS4 will still be getting those games.

People need to remember that the money in gaming comes from selling software, sony probably wouldn't make more than $10 from selling a brand new PS5 but they stand to make way more than that from every game sold at any point in time.

Having the PS4/PS4pro be forward compatible allows them not just make a ridiculously powerful console, but the PS5 could even be priced at as high as $500/$600 with the intention of not selling more than 6-8M of them in its launch year. Then drop the price as the etch inside it becomes more affordable.

These upgrades are designed to appeal to existing users and those who want more powerful hardware.

Sony implied their next console will not be an upgrade, it will be PS5. While MS gave the impression they want to do upgrades. What they actually do though, who knows.

I think the forward compatibility route is the best way to go and I've made that point in the past. Many games on PS4 and X1 don't need cutting edge power, low spec games would work fine on 2013 hardware. However, technically advanced designed for 2020 hardware may not support 2013 hardware. Its kinda like iPhone, a lot of games work fine between generations. But some of the more advanced games can't support all models.

So in the end, Nintend will win and be right. It's not about graphics, it's about content.

PC gamers, PS, Xbox and even yearly upgraded mobile users disagree with you.

Microsoft and Sony are doing this because people is leaving to PC looking for better gaming experiences, but they have a problem, even PS4 Pro and Scorpio are already outshined by high end PCs. So i'm going to say in 2019 - 2020 we'll have PS5 and the 4th Xbox already.

That's why 50% of steam userbase has weaker specs then PS4 and about 47% have the power of PS4 Pro about 3-4% have stronger PC's.

These new consoles are a bit of a weird thing to be honest. I own a Ps4 Pro and while I love it and the games do look better on a 4k screen, it's not that big of a difference. Sure, in theory, these mid-gen consoles can do games that look 2 to 3 times better than on ps4/ Xone. But it's just like with PC, no game developer is going full out and squeeze these "new" consoles to its limits when 90% of the sales come from the ps4 and X1. However, I do think these new consoles can become a bigger thing when VR becomes more mainstream.

If you want the best of the best, PC is still the only option. Consoles are not an alternative for high end graphics. They never were.

And they never will be,Sony and Microsoft aren't gonna bring high End Console (they could) but they don't want to.

And i don't want the best of the best i want the best games And PS4 and Switch(Maybe) look the be the best candidates.

But they dont try too, you pay £250 for a Xbox one or PS4. What do ypu pay for a high end PC? double or triple that.

That goes way offtopic, and that's also begging for a conflict. Was that really a necessary post?
