Yes, I take my firsthand experience over your word.

Did I say my words was law? Its more your tone i'm responding to than your opinion.

Well, you are stating what you think as being facts. So forgive me for being so blunt.

Kids don't give a damn about Nintendo? To who have they sold those 60M+ 3DSes?

I should've been specific. Kids dont give a damn about Nintendo home consoles. They want GTA and COD. Nntendo's core market (whom by now are mostly grown up) focused on their exclusives on consoles is dwindling as the generations pass. They create their consoles for themselves which alienates third parties who made games to secure profit for themselves on reliable partners hardware which requires minimal changes. Nintendo forgot since the 90's that he who holds the third party holds the power. Look at Microoft...if they had no third party, they would barely have any excclusives to show at all and its massively covered up by that. The little kids were all over the 360 last gen too.

@bolded, 360 being huge among kids/families was primarily do to things like the plastic instrument craze, Minecraft & Kinect. Minecraft can now be played on essentially every current gaming device and Kinect clearly has lost relevance in the transition fom 360 to XBO and the big instrument games like Rock Band & Guitar Hero have essentially died.

So far we haven't seen much from PS4/XBO to attract kids, families, casuals or females. Something like 75% of retail software sales on these devices consist of open-world action, online based shooters & annual sports titles which primarly attract teenage & adult males.

Obviously the teen/adult male demographic is a very large one for gaming but doubling down on a single demographic while almost neglecting everybody else is unlikely to increase the overall customer base and will lead to stagnation.

Again, I do not want to take away from your experience. I just posted a study which showed the majority of pokemon gamers are getting older. I respect that in your household things are as they are. Just because one debates, doesnt mean they seek to change your opinon, but rather to discuss the issue or find greater meaning in your own opinion.

My 10 years old son (and his brother in law, I should mention) doesn't give a crap about GTA. He's all about Minecraft and Pokemon. So I'll take my personal objective obeservation over your "passing what I expect as what everyone expect claims.

Wait...you're using two people as objective evidence? Without outside influence that might be their subjective taste. I mean, even I could agree that Nintendo games are artiscially geared towards children but it doesnt mean childrens choices arent diverse. I was the same but I had massive parental supervision over how i gamed the majority of the time, so I grew up on primarily Nintendo first party in the 90's. Its not completely that way anymore as kids have more access to their own choices digitally and also because a lot of parents have less time with their kids.  My point is that the majority of Nintendo die hards are adults at this point in time. The people who sold out the switch within short time and owned the Wii U. The majority of Pokemon players are adults. I can agree that kids have a greater share of the handheld and portable/ mobile market but. Ive seen more kids than I can count convince their parents to buy them games on the Xbox 360 and Playsation that based on age they shouldnt be playing (usually the parents didnt know what the games were and sought council and it was left up to their decision). Most of those games are generally found off of a Nintendo console. I will agree that Minecraft is played alot by kids and teens though. Some of the funniest videos on Youtube are little kids getting trolled on COD as well. COD last gen was known for little racist kids on the 360. It was rampant.

dude that survey is from October 18, 2013......two weeks after the game released and for a single region.

You dont suppose die hard fans are the ones who get games right away and kids get get them for presents during the holidays?

The game has sold an additional 10-12 million since that survey was taken so we cant use the survey to draw any conclusions outside of the first 2 weeks of sales in Japan.

Why would I read an article if you already took the effort and posted the best bits in the thread? Most people in this forum don't even read the OP, let alone click on links. Why would you expect anyone to read the full article? Talk about being naive.

Good point, I can't argue that. You win this round.

Really??? Good point? Come on Rolstoppable I really did not care for Vivster comment and I won’t express how I felt about his post. But don't go and encourage it.

I'm sure quite a few people like myself have click on the link and read the full article. I wish more people would take more time to read and get a full understanding before leaving uninformed comment that may or may not relate to the message that OP was trying to convey.

The Wired article is discussing a real issue with the Switch, the console is targeting die-hard video games fans. Sure, some of them might blindly buy whatever is being offered by Nintendo. But, take the WiiU for example the number of Die-hard Nintendo fan has skrunked and is shrinking. Less than 15 million WiiU were sold worldwide.

Yet Nintendo messaging is all over the place with Switch, seem to me like they want to target the casual market but they priced themselve out of that market at $299 and underpowered consoles that promise to play console games on the go won't appeal to most Die-hard video game fans that enjoy high end graphics.

If Nintendo switch only appeal to small niche market rather than the masses they are in huge trouble.

Just read the Ubisoft thought on Switch:

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2017-01-18-ubisoft-were-confident-nintendo-can-create-a-bridge-between-mobile-and-tv

"Of course, one publisher which has committed in a big way is Ubisoft. The firm announced three games for Switch (Just Dance, Rayman Legends and Steep), far more than any other third-party."

This is really troublesome concidering that Ubisoft brought a new IP (zombiU) and 6 titles for the WiiU launch. Nintendo's third party support is in even more dire situations then it ever was on any previous consoles.

EDIT: Fixed the link to the gamesindustry article.

I don't like COD because of the community, because it outsells games I like much better, and I dislike FIFA because I don't like sports games that are realistic.

Sorry, I misread your post at first. I really don't care them either. But yeah, I was talking about the people that play the games.

maybe they play them because they enjoy them

That would be my bet as well. But this is the industry's core audience, which is casual gamers.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

I'm definitely getting super NES vibes from Switch, the same way I got NES vibes from the Wii. The console won't just be for diehard nintendo fans of the present, but for oldschool nintendo fans, particularly SNES fans who have since lost interest.

I think it's success will likewise be similar to SNES, if not a little better because of the added value of being a true portable.

Well it's a good thing Switch is also a portable then..
