I've seen a lot more criticism for what Nintendo is offering with their subscription than for the paid online itself.

Thats always Been thé issue Because thé excuse was " yeah Nintendo online service are really Bad and super limited but at least its free " but now no more excuses , itll bé hard to justify online services far behind the compétition.

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

I for one am glad they didn't mention a feature we already had for years as new :)

I don't think Nintendo fans are as easily manipulated as PS fans, so nope, no mistake. That's why you see so many PS fans telling stories about being former Nintendo fans while the other way around is very rare.

I hope thats à joke post, you never know with Nintendo fans :p

Intended to be one or not, I literally laughed out loud.  I just had this image flash in my head of someone snickering about other fans while putting up a new shelf in anticipation of the next wave of obscure Amiibo.

It's still worth thinking about though. Why are there so many PS fans that claim to be former Nintendo fans? One explanation is that they are lying. Another explanation is that they didn't get manipulated by Nintendo, changed alliance and then stuck with Sony through everything, no matter how bad; meaning they fall to manipulation by Sony's marketing, otherwise they would have switched consoles again.

Nintendo is rapidly losing customers when they do bad things; we can look at sales data for that. Sony doesn't suffer in the same way; the only time that things went really down south for Sony was with the Vita when they made an exit altogether.

True. Especially when you ignore how many fans (and sales) they lost between ps2 and ps3. But sure, let's leave that out ;)

As a former Nintendo fan who switched to Playstation, this one is easy.  Playstation hasn't lost as many fans because they haven't done as many things that would make them lose fans.

They did lose fans to Microsoft but recovered quickly.  Likewise, Microsoft lost a bunch of fans at the start of this generation but they also recovered quite well.  Nintendo, on the other hand, never recovered from losing third-parties, which is a really big deal, so the fans who left never came back.

Playstation and Xbox both have their groups of die-hard fans, just like Nintendo, but they ALSO have tons of fans who love third-party software just as much or even more.  That's the real difference.

It's no great mystery.  Most consumers will jump ship if they feel like the competition offers a better product.  If Nintendo hasn't been able to make people jump back then they have no one blame but themselves.  That's how business works.

You bought a Vita, but not a 3DS. I think that sums it up.

Well, no, it doesn't sum up anything.  It's just a deflection.

Maybe it would sum things up if the question was, "which handheld had Persona 4 Golden?"

They forgot to mention that you can lend your physical Switch games to your friends as much as you want. That knowledge would cleanly overshadow the fact they are now charging for what used to be free.

Poor Nintendo always making mistakes.

Wrong. Nintendo did not make a mistake. They dodged a very large bullet.

I'm quite confident in saying that Nintendo announced the news about "subscription fees" because many Nintendo fans would complain later after they committed and purchased the hardware and would feel betrayed and angered. The expectation and false belief of free online is something that may have factored into their purchased of the Switch and this would have lead to some serious negative press and fan backlash toward Nintendo. A very large bullet is dodged indeed. This was a very vital piece of information that needed to be addressed to the more core Nintendo fans. Nintendo did not go further into the subject of online gaming because they are not yet ready to reveal their plans.

I'm think everything will be detailed at E3 and I think a lot of people are going to feel pretty stupid after everything is laid out.

It's a lower amount than Nintendo lost in both raw numbers and percentages.

A significant number, nonetheless. It would have been even worse had Sony not done an incredible job supporting it.

I'm actually sort of surprised they didn't do that since they're always some years behind the rest of the world.

They should have pulled a Sony and not mentioned it during the presentation at all and stealthily revealed it after as well in order to not face any negatives in the presentation. /s

They already did that by hiding thé fact that youll only keep the free games One Month with the paid service

I'm a bit surprised to see the negativity about online, even though before, everyone basically complained about online and that Nintendo should be like Sony and Microsoft and step up their online
