"Our new dedicated smart device app will connect to Nintendo Switch and let you invite friends to play online, set play appointments, and chat with friends during online matches in compatible games─all from your smart device.

A free, limited version of this app will be available for download in summer 2017."

So, there is going to be either a paid version with all the features... OR... the app will be free at first, then become a paid-app...

i dont think Nintendo is that stupid.I just think either the wording is poor, or there will be one app that has extra features, but the base app has all the things mentioned before.And it should be noted that when you subscribe to the online, you will have acess to the multiplayer and voice chat and stuff, so charging for the app dosent make sense.

Well, Nintendo could make a shit decision about the app, but I dont think so.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Looking at the article, I believe it's part of their paid online services, which is to say you cannot use it unless you're an online subscriber and they're letting you test it like they plan to allow people to use their other online services for a time.

That's the context he was speaking from anyway. Otherwise, charging for what is already an inconvenience would be too absurd to be true lol

I think it would be very bad if some features where behind a pay-wall as well....

I know of another way how I could "invite a friend"... Texting. The fact that this functionality isn't just on the Switch itself makes it totally redundant.

i'd imagine it is like the HBO app.

i can download it for free and browse all the content HBO has to offer but i have to prove i'm a subscriber in order to access the content. nintendo can't be dumb enough to charge for a subscription service and also charge to download the app.
