Forums - Nintendo - Switch Docking Station for 90€. Why?

If it ups the resolution then clearly there's some tech in there. Whether it's worth $90 is another question.

The dock doesn't up the resolution, the Switch console on its own overclocks its SoC and changes the resolution when put into the docking station and doesn't have to worry about battery life in that mode.

Ah, thanks.

Yup.

It comes with a HDMI cable and a charger as well though. Not so bad. The JoyCons are where the crazy price is at.

I thought so too but the more I think of it the Joycons look like the better deal, to be honest. A pair of Joycons can basically act like two controllers (that's $40 for each controller) and they also come with that little attachment to be more ergonomic (and a wrist strap, yeah!).

The docking station though... I don't know it just seems to be a piece of plastic? Does it have a fan inside or really fancy tech to enable a smooth transition from TV to portable mode? Maybe they have a really small assembly line for the dock and won't be able to produce many so they put a huge price on it or something haha.

I have to say that I'm really disappointed with Nintendo. This has the same WiiU prone to fail story written all over it. Again if I want a normal controller I have to spend extra money, again the console is very short on internal storage space so I have buy a extra storage (in this case sd card) , and again no proper Ethernet port. Well, nope, I don’t have to, I’m not putting my money on the Switch. The way things are right now, Nintendo are on the way to repeat the 3Ds story, where they had to apologize to the fanbase, and cut  the price.

No idea. Beats me. It doesn't seem like it could be so expensive.

I was (and still am) very disappointed of the lack of an Ethernet port on the Wii U, but for the Switch I can understand that decision.

How should that work when docking or undocking the device? Should it use ethernet when the Switch is in its dock and flawlessly switch to WiFi when taking it out of the docking station? Could work, but what happens when I put the Switch in a different docking station in another room / house / town after that?

Will it then connect with the different LAN flawlessly?

It's a simple motherboard in a casing. It doesn't even have USB 3.0 or HDMI 2.0. So in what way could this device so expensive.

It has USB 3.0 though. Not that that would explain the price.

It’s been confirmed that you will be able to connect an Ethernet port to the usb port on the Switch dock, so yes, you can have wired Ethernet connection when docked, and wi-fi when it’s in tablet mode. So I don’t see why they didn’t just added the Ethernet port to the dock on the first place. Wait, I see why …. Nintendo’s nickel&diming ….
