They can. But they don't want to because there's no innovation in it.

That doesn't make any sense...Are you trying to say that a game with great graphics can't be innovative?

I was being facetious. Many in this thread are suggesting that big budget and graphically superior games aren't innovation.

PC GAMING: BEST GAMES. WORST CONTROLS

A mouse & keyboard are made for sending email and typing internet badassery. Not for playing video games!!!

Ah okay, gotcha.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I should maybe write something more here aswell considering I started the thread :). There is a valid argument to be had that we as consumers shouldn´t be the ones who care about the financial risks companies take when it comes to creating new content. However, if that risk means that we get even more micro transactions and less content in the actual games that are released and the rest through DLC, well then we are actually paying for that risk.

The hunt for this absurd "graphical capability" prize that noone can get accelerates the cost of development in a way that creates a situation that creativity gets to stand back behind financial investments. That is why studios bet more on sequels when it comes to AAA titles than new IPs. At the same time, we as consumers demand that prices for new games remain relatively flat (when I bought Phantasy Star 4 in 1995 I payed the equivalent of 55$).

Well the studios, taking into consideration the higher cost of development and having to make up that money somewhere, then resort to money grabbing tactics like DLC, micro stransactions and more.

So the industry needs to take 5 steps back and not have games progress or become better, great to know. The Switch is about to be the Wii U 2.0. Hell at least the Wii U had a better line up

disagree. Zelda at the level that it appears to preform on the Switch in handheld mode (which is far beyond anything the Wii U was capable of) alone is a selling point for me. Not a fantastic launch, but Zelda is far better than the crappy Wii U launch had.

let's put it this way- I am a Nintendo fan who essentially skipped the Wii U generation and have preordered the Switch + Zelda. I think its the right direction because it is graphically pretty great (considering what batteries and parts you can realistically fit into a handheld device) and somewhat innovative. Personally I enjoy handheld gaming and the concept of just throwing my system easily into a dock and jumping onto the TV to game (with improved graphics from there) seems seamless and like the sort of transitional gaming I've wanted for a long time from one system

BOTW is so far beyond what the Wii U could do, that it's coming out on Wii U!!!
