Didn't Nintendo themselves just confirm last night that it runs 1080p both on the screen and handheld and the Wii U is 720?

Yes, but we are on vgchartz where all the real news are ignored.

Ok, I'll try to play along better.

So I'm assuming zelda is running at 480i when in docked mode.

Is that better?

Nope, ign was wrong, they rectified.

I higly doubt this game is 60fps btw.

You also have to remember that for whatever God forsaken reason, Nintendo decided to make the Wii U not display full range over HDMI so unless there are future home brews allowing that, you are going to miss some contrast no matter what. As much as I love my Wii U games, technically, it really is a shit console with a lot of shortcomings.

You won't miss much if you calibrate your display correctly. It goes wrong when you capture a video intended for tv display and then show it on a pc display without converting to full RGB. Which is why it looks washed out on you tube. I've tried to spot the difference between limited and full RGB, both calibrated correctly on my projector (it has a build in waveform analyzer to perfectly calibrate contrast) and no matter what game I try, I can't see a difference.

It would be nice if WiiU had the option. Perhaps with the newer 10 bit displays and wider color gamut, full RGB range might actually make a small difference. But the colors looking washed out or generally foggier in the comparison is just a matter of incorrectly capturing/displaying the footage. It has nothing to do with the game.

It's definitely a bitch when I try to capture Wii U games and fuck with the capture settings and still come out with a more washed out image compared to other captures, but you are right that on an actual display, it can look very close with some tweaks, but you really shouldn't need to do extra work for that shit IMO.

Cool! Will play Switch version when the Switch isn't so damn expensive.

At least they didn't make Link right-handed...

Didn't look much different but definitely the win for Switch. However timeline and the way it was captured are factors too. It would be interesting to know the size of the cartridge compared to the download size of the wii u version. Maybe they have added some count the balls in my sack mini-game to the Switch version but I'm not bothered about that. It's like a ps4 vs xbone comparison with the Switch being the ps4.

I think I will prefer playing it with the wii u pro controller and in the UK the wii u version is £10 cheaper for suggested retail price £49.99 vs £59.99 plus I won't be getting a Switch probably for a long time and would rather play it on release so wii u version for me. Pre-ordered yesterday.

wii u emulation is coming on fine too and perhaps we will see the wii u version upscaled to 4k etc.

I think the new Zelda is confirmed to be like 13.4GB or somewhere around there so I imagine it'd come in like a 16GB cart.

It's absolutely not, or it'd look like this http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=224605&page=1# in any preview that was recorded in 60FPS.

The colour difference is caused by the WiiUs primitive ass limited RGB range.

I don't remember any Wi U game where I thought: this game ain't colorful enough.

I'm sure that the real Wii U version will look much better than in these questionable videos.

There seem to be different daytimes, shaders or lighting engines. And maybe also different seasons. Or the colors got upgraded, most likely on both versions but the Wii-U footage is older.

In the first part I prefer the Wii-U version, it has far better shadows and atmosphere but it might be just recorded at a different in-game daytime. Or the weather engine uses random elements. Also at 0:35 the Switch version seems to miss some cloud effects. Also the Wii-U version shows some flowers in front of the stone which are missing in the Switch version.

But again, the Wii-U footage might be just outdated and the retail version will look different.
