This is a shocker. Is it for optimization? Or weaker hardware?

Optimisation probably.
That said the switch version runs at 900p, and supposedly the Wii U is 720p or lower.
I m sure by the time it gets relased, it will run well
PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850
Optimization. Still some time before launch. Both machines use completely different chip sets that speak different languages.
Wii U version is probably done and the next 3 or 4 weeks before they go into production will be spent optimising.
They can always patch it too

Yes they can patch. If Nintendo has plans like other developers including Sony and Microsoft to patch buggy games later then that tiny 32 GB storage needs to be expanded. Otherwise they will be in a difficult situation.

The fact that it runs at 900p instead of 1080p already shows that it runs at its limits. It will certainly have drops.
