Yes, it's a problem that can be fixed, sure, but the high price sends the wrong message.
A price point of $250 or, better yet, $200 would cause Switch to fly off shelves. That would get the unit into more homes, which would lead to more software and accessory sales.
The Nintendo faithful and early adopters won't blink at the $300 price tag, but fair-weather fans will. If Nintendo wants to get those fans, it will have to drop the price early, which will no doubt upset those that paid $300 at launch.
Xbox One never recovered from its $500 price point and disastrous reveal. Switch NEEDS to get out of the game quickly, and a $300 price of admission is NOT the way to do that.

Actually it has all that in common. Being that the point is ANYONE CAN DROP THE PRICE. The ability to drop the price - doesn't make it not expensive. At $300 it is too expensive. At lower than $300 it may not be. At which point THEN you buy it. |
No... He is just too much into console wars that he takes my words as me saying that Nintendo has the ability to cut the price of switch while sony/ms not with pro/scorpio.
I'm just reminding to people that switch probably won't be forever at 300$... Is that bad?
By the way, maybe ps4 pro is a cheap as it can be and won't get cheaper shortly, as for scorpio.... Microsoft is Microsoft, they can lose money without trouble for obvious reasons!

Aren't you the guy who bought a new TV next to a new PS4Pro? |
Nope-adoodle!
I still have my 55" 1080p Sony bravia from 2 years ago (beast of a TV) and I still have my day 1 ps4.
I'll probably get the Pro this year but I've decided I won't be getting a 4k TV until the ps5!
yes they can cut the price, but launching at a high price damage the sales for good. They can improve but they will never be as good as they could have been.
Here is some examples of gaming systems that were released with bad pricing
-The first Xbox 479$
-Xbox One 499$ (compared to the 360 which was 299$/399$)
-3DS 249$ (compared to the DS which was 159$ if I remember correctly)
-WiiU 299$ / 349$ (compared to the Wii which was 249$)
-PS3 599$ (compared to PS2 which was 299$) I can't remember (took a lot of money and hardwork to bring back the PS brand but Sony did it)
Nintendo should not have broken the 250 bar. They should have stick with something cheaper to make, less gimmicks, more raw power and pricetag of 249 with one game. That's how you do it
Now the damage is done, everybody will know that the Switch is a 300$/330€ console with outdated graphics.

SERIOUSLY, STOP IT... What my thread has to do with PS4 or XB1? Nothing!

It has everything to do tho...
Wii success was based on the ocassional gamer who didint want to expend that much money for a X360 or a PS3...
Because of WiiU numbers, we know nintendo fanbase in home consoles (switch being 50% home console) is not that big. So, the comparision is important, because if they want to catch ocassional gamers, what would make these ocassional gamers to prefer a Switch over a PS4 or XONE. The price wont, for sure...
Even I (and I am for sure NOT an ocassional gamer), owning all 3, Id prefer to get a PS4PRO or a XBONE scorpio before getting a switch, because Price and the history of poor support on the WiiU.

Okay, I feel that my previous title was misunderstanding...
Never happened with the Wii U so why should they do it with the Switch?
If they had wanted to have a better price they would have already used it for the launch and not later.
The most early case for this to happen is holidays 2017 but it's unlikely.

You don't seem to understand the point. The criticism is aimed at the price. When the price changes, the criticism changes. No one is saying the price can't or won't change. They are saying right now - that price is too high. When it goes lower, people will re-evaluate. Also the $80 price drop from the 3ds isn't a good example. You can tell Nintendo didn't plan that. That was an emergency.. That is why they tried to placate people by giving away a lot of "free" VC games. It wasn't a planned price drop. |
That's true...
Nintendo has to have a plan this time though...
Perhaps, their tight shipments forecast for launch months is a sign...

Yeah, but hapenned with GBA/GC, 3DS and more... If you remember!
Wii u had the expensive gamepad, 89$ out of the 199$ manufacturing cost! ;)
