Forums - Nintendo - What did you expect from the Switch event that wasn't shown?

I'm not saying that's all they should have. I'm saying that Nintendo plans on selling 2 million of these things, Zelda can take care of that easy. To hope that we're getting huge AAA third party games woudl be "on it". We're simply not going to get those games on Switch. All I'm saying is wait until after E3 to start making conclusions out of things that haven't been shown yet. Based off what has been shown, Nintendo should be able to sell through their stock in time to get people excited again around E3.

@ bolded: Seems like a contradiction there since you say wait before making conclusions but then you say that the Switch isn't getting those huge AAA games when nobody knows that yet, launch is still 2 months away.

Not arguing your point or anything, i'm just pointing that out.

Yeah, you're kind of right but AAA game support really comes down to if your hardware can support it and the Switch seems to be running Xenoblade 2 pretty poorly. My stance will always be Switch will get amazing 1st and 3rd party support from Japan but not from the west.

I think the Switch will be fine hardware wise since while maybe not as powerful as PS4 or Xbox One it seems to be running big engines like Unreal Engine 4 just fine and has plenty of games using that engine, so I think what will determine 3rd party ports are if the Switch manages to sell well or not.  Even if the hardware isn't as powerful as other consoles, if the thing is selling like crazy then I imagine most developers will take the time to port a game to it.

I agree with you that I think 3rd party Japan support will be pretty incredible though, at this point I expect almost every big game releasing in Japan and on PS4 to get a Switch version like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, etc.

I think sales will be a big factor in more western third party support though, not just hardware this time since developers like Bethesda and From Software are even supporting the system, so I don't think it's not powerful enough to run their games.

Plus we still don't know the full specs, a lot of people are jumping to conclusions and assuming it's weak but for all we know it could be closer to the PS4 and Xbox One than we think, hence it being $300 instead of $250 like a lot of people predicted. I've been hoping and saying since the beginning that I hope it's really close to at least the Xbox One in terms of power, even if a little below it.

I wanted Beyond Good & Evil, Pikmin and Rabbids to be there. I guess they are saving some games for E3.

A TON -- which makes me extremely optimistic about E3. I was expecting Animal Crossing, that Rabbids RPG, Pikmin 4, Monster Hunter XX, Retro's game, Luigi's Mansion 3, Beyond Good and Evil 2, more emulated/eshop games, something from Intelligent Systems, Next Level Games and HAL along with a ton of ports and other things I'm forgetting. It seems like the presentation was focused on Nintendo EAD (or whatever they're called now) projects.

I was just as puzzled as you that they didn't put that trailer up of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe during the presentation.

I envy your optimism.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

This.

I want to know what the heck was happening during that last year drought. Did they spend all the time working on Arms?

Either way, I expect the Switch to have a good or modest launch, with poor sales afterwards. E3 is their last chance to turn it around and show the damn point of merging their console and handheld sectors.

Yeah, pretty much what I'm expecting. This seems like a really dicey situation for them because I fear that this won't be a huge improvement over the Wii U and unless there's a true 3DS successor in the works they'll have just pissed away their handheld business, too.

I don't know about E3 being the last chance, but the longer they wait to turn it around the harder it will be to do.

I should have known Pokemon Stars was an elaborate ruse, but i still fell for it so it hurts.

- games: don't just say "there are games in development"; name them, show screens, rush through 80 games within 120 seconds and make people happy. Tbh I always hope for a console to receive a promise of a huge game every 2 months (not "there will be x launch games and x+50 games in the first year") but nobody's ever doing it
- crowd: even if it's Japan, at least have some cheering going on to make it not look and sound like a bland keynote at the office
- details: no details have been mentioned at all. What about the "batteries" in the controllers? What about hardware specs (at least some to get an idea of what is to come) and the game cards; is the (small) memory space only used for apps, digital games and screenshots/videos?
- "there's going to be online" oh really? Show details, how is it going to work, how do friends, parties and probably Nintendo's achievements that have been introduced with Miitomo work?

It was a long presentation but they practically showed and told nothing they could have thrown out in an announcement that is readable in 2 minutes.
