I have mixed feelings.
I will likely buy it at launch, since I generally do this with almost all consoles.
That being said if my friends weren't getting it Day 1, I most definitely would be waiting until holiday 2017 if not longer.
The $299 price drop isn't bad, and I can effortlessly pay for it, but I have a serious problem with price : performance (comes from building PCs), and I just don't see a good ratio here. If the Switch is using Tegra X1 like rumored it should have been $199, and if using Tegra X2 / P1, then it should have been $249 both with 1 2 Switch packed in.
The software looks good from a first party perspective. Zelda, Mario, Splatton 2, and Xenoblade looks great and they're trying more New IPs. And Japanese support seems there as well will several Dragon Quest games, Square, Sega, Namco Bandi, and more on board. But they missed the ball BIG time with best of Wii U ports, western developer presence, and FULL Virtual Console support from NES - Wii (since the Joycons have motion control) and GB - 3DS.
Charging for online is another big concern. I already pay for PS+, XBL, and now Nintendo as well. The problem is Nintendo hasn't proven their online is worth paying for. They need a Nintendo version of PS+ / Games 4 Gold ASAP, they need achievements ASAP, they need to lose friend codes for gamertags, and they need to unify gamer accounts so your account and your purchases come with you across platforms.
I see the potential, but I don't think it's there Day 1 and not for $299 for most consumers. If you have the money to spend and love Zelda it's a Day 1.
But I don't see Switch appealing to casual / child gamer at a $299 price point (when a $99 tablet or their smartphone is good enough for them), I don't see it appealing to core gamers who can buy a PS4/XBO for that price or less if they have a price drop in 2017 which is EXTREMELY likely, and I don't see the western support being there from developers to help make up the 50% loss of marketshare in NA / EU that the 3DS suffered.
This will definitely be an interesting Year 1 for them.
