Forums - Microsoft - Phil Spencer - Talks about Scalebound and first party games "1st party internal studios are critical"

I really hope we get a full on Kotaku piece on what's going on here. I think this is more about the new CEOs vision than Phills.

Why invest 10's of millions on IPs when third party multiplats do the job. I fear the fate of Rare if SoT doesn't do well.

It will be interesting to see if Remedy get funded to make another game, if the Coalition make a new IP or stick to Gears, or whether MS buy out the dev who is making KI for them. This E3 will be very interesting.

M$ doesn't need to build or buy new studios, they need to sign deals to fund innovative titles from third parties and independents. Sony didn't "build" their greatest studios. They developed a very strong working relationship with them over the course of several years, and the studios delivered brilliantly. M$'s only example of that would be Bungie(now gone) and Remedy, which, if they're smart, they won't cut ties with due to one failure.

Vote to get Scalebound back. https://xbox.uservoice.com/forums/363186--new-ideas/suggestions/17675614-scalebound#comments

Maybe you should vote to get Nier:Automata ported to X1 instead of asking Phil to pour money into a hopeless game that never looked good?

Phil basically replied with " you can't polish a turd", that's what his tweet reads like.

Everyone calling for the end of gears n halo. I'm sitting here thinking sure have the colition go back to that spy game, but please god don't take halo from me lol.

Halo MCC will sell 5+ million copies(including digital)

halo 5 will sell 10 million copies(including digital)

x1 will pass ps4 in USA, and UK.

The new Halo and Gears suck though. Look at Master Chief in your profile pic - even hes depressed.

Saw those replies on twitter damn a lot of those comments are brutal, downright mean.

Maybe he is not the savior of Xbox division like people thought he will be and again this is still very much Don Mattrick's Xbox not Phil's.

Phil's xbox is the Scorpio if he can't rebuild the brand even a little god knows what will happen.

Microsoft won't give two shits if Xbox sinks.

Can you so me some of these mean tweets? I went to find them but only can find supportive tweets. Unless they have been deleted.... then... well.... wow!

The last comment sent to Phil is very, very important. Microsoft has not proven first party studios capable of making hot new IP's outside of Turn 10. Three generations and they still have proven very little about their own ability to act as a developer of new IP's.

I think Phil has much less power than some people think, his desire might be that the Xbox brand had a bigger and more diverse 1st party portfolio like Sony and Nintendo, but the people who are truly calling the shots don´t seem interested.

In the 'Scalebound is cancelled' thread, I agree with Rol when he said that MS seems to be moving away from single player story driven games...in fact, a big part of the industry is and is instead going for multiplayer focused, 'games as a service' model (which I personally dislike)

Personally, as a console player and someone who doesn´t really enjoy multiplayer games that aren´t Smash Bros and Mario Kart, it´s a major part of my decision of sticking with a Playstation/Nintendo combo, as their 1st party strategy still focuses on a lot of primarily single player games.

how about for once spencer walks the walk and doesnt just talk the talk. everything he says about first party is BS.

A lot of empty words... just vague promises.
