There are no real good reason to make moderation history public. The trouble makers find their way out eventually. And those who revel in knowing certain users are banned already take advantage of the current members list feature.

The reason someone gets banned concerns the user himself and nobody else. Having this made public would only serve to make for a more toxic environment in which other members would use that kind of things as bullets against those getting banned. We don't need that. There's nothing beneficial for the common good of the community in this. If you need to know why certain users have gotten banned this bad, if it's that important for you to know, my guess is that you should rethink your priorities and concentrate and work on yourself and what you bring to the community.

If that was the case, this thread has no purpose.

Anonymity breeds toxicity, not transparency.

Re-read the OP. I think you need it.

And while you're at it, re-read the last part of that comment you quoted. This was meant for people like you.

I missed a lot of funny ones in the past so that isn't a great solution. Maybe we can have a compromise of only showing the last moderation and have a list of, let's say, the last 100 banned people.

OK, instead of talking about the reasons to make it public, maybe we should also ask what the benefits are to keeping it private and what the downsides are. If there are none really, then there is no reason to keep them private.

People’s Moderation Histories are staying private. That’s how it’s always been and there isn’t any reason to change it. They’re entitled to that level of privacy.

But "that's how it's always been" isn't really an a reason, what are the benefits to keeping it private?

You're the one suggesting it change, so you're the one who's going to have to provide the justification.

The benefits are everyone gets their privacy. Would you really like a list of cringy and embarrassing things you've done in the past plastered front and center in your Facebook wall? The answer is no, and the individual's right to privacy supercedes the individual's right to transparency.

Because it is their business. Why does it matter to you so much?

If it's their business, why are there even ban notes at all? We can see which post the user got banned for and the ban note, so they're not really private in the first place, rather it'd be more convenient being in one neat location. As to why it matters to me, one is personal interest, I like seeing through the history of VGChartz, another is for transparency as I don't see why you guys don't trust the community with this information.

The posts are already on VGC, there for everyone to see publicly. So it's not private information anyway, it'd just be conveniently located.

Well, I don’t know what to tell you.

Well, I'll ask then. Is it being kept private for a practical reason, or is it mainly for the sake of tradition?

How does that fit with the tradition of openly displaying ban notifications of active bans?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

It's there because it tries to bridge the gap between both sides. It shows a current ban out of transparency so the community can see why a ban has taken place and knows it wasn't because a moderator decided to just go HAM and abuse their power. It disappears and becomes hidden afterwards because someone's mistake shouldn't be a public tool for others to use against that user for the rest of their time on VGC, long after the infraction takes place. I would say it's entirely practical.
