This is the reason I almost never post here any more.

I won't be back regularly until things change. But that's fine. My PS4 and Switch are keeping me plenty busy.

Oh, that's a shame. You're a cool user, so now I'm tempted to say I agree with the proposition too.

Not sure if sarcasm...

Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if some would argue that I am one of those "problematic users". So there's that.

I'd approve, though I would want it to be an unanimous decision by the mod team.

Yeah I figured it'd come across that way. Nah, I do like you.

Thank you for the kind words

I don't approve. Seems like an underhanded scheme on someone's part to just start getting rid of people they don't like on the site.

This isn't an official mod question, but one of my own little questions for anyone interested.

What would the overall reaction be to the mod team removing problematic members of the community who don't actually "break the rules" with the posts they're making? We can all see and point out specific members (right or wrong) who continually cause problems in threads, get other members into trouble and remain unscathed thanks to the rule set. They're poisonous to any real discussion and I think the forum would be better off without them.

The best way to solve any problem is to remove the cause of that problem.

It's been something I've wanted the moderators to do for a long, long time.

I'm definitely in favour of this. Too many users do exactly as you stated and do it on purpose and it annoys me to no end.

Is this a proposal from the Mod Team, or just a question of personal interest from Carl?

I don't think permaban is the solution. I think these guys should get a "Disrupting flow of the thread ban" which would be 2 or 3 days that doesn't stack at all with any other ban. 2 days insures that at least 1 day is spent banned. Repeat users should eventually get annoyed by being banned 2 days at a time every time they do it. And that is 1 day of real discussion and the thread will be 1 day older by the time they get back.

Hell no. That's idiotic for plenty of reasons. I heavily disagree with this because it's essentially giving a handful of people the means to ban anyone they don't like. What's the point of rules if you can get banned by irking a mod regardless if you actually broke a rule or not?  This forum would turn into a walled garden with a bunch of brown nosing overly sensitive babies with two year olds acting as mods.  Who's to say what would happen when mod positions switched out to different people who would likely abuse it. Ugh. That's a really dumb idea.

Yeah best idea is to banned these guys from a thread for a period of time.

You would need someone to re program the site but the ability to hand out bans to certain things be it a particular super thread like Comg, mediacreate, playstation nation etc or it could be to any thread posted under sales discussion, politics, sports etc. There could be a progressive system. This would work well and we would have a better forum without them.

Man, haven’t commented in a mod thread since the old mod thread, and I dominated that sucker!😜. I was trying to stay away from this one, but I want to address Carl’s topic.

Anyways, as far as banning the trouble users even though they are following the rules I would say no. I certainly understand why you would want to, but I think anytime mods are given undefined powers over a community, in the end the community worse off for it. You could add some rules that could help remove some issues, but even then they would have to be worded in such a vague way to be effective that in the end I think it would cause more problems then help.

In the end, I just think it is out of the moderators hands. You can’t force people to be nice to each other. When we have forums, there is always going to be people with different opinions that produce debate. I don’t think we want to stop people from debating, which most of those trouble users are just people that want to debate. As long as they aren’t stepping over a line when they do so, it should be fine, even though it may annoy some people. I think that as moderators you guys control and keep the debates in line, but without stifling them. That’s my two cents anyhow, cheers!
