It's well-known that the moderation in political threads leaves a lot to be desired, because there's hardly any interference from the mod team despite rampant name-calling and trolling. I hardly speak up on these things because I mostly stay clear of politics, but I've come across a disturbing case.

monocle_layton got moderated which is a defensible decision on the surface. By adding an f-bomb, it becomes clear that someone isn't merely making a statement of observation, but actively and intentionally wants to insult someone else. What's interesting in the ban note is the reminder of "no matter the context." Well, perhaps we should consider the context.

The argument that monocle_layton had an issue with is that someone said that nazis are equal to jews, gays or really any other group of people. Apparently there's no difference that sticks out between all possible groups. It's so poorly argued that one of the points is that the holocaust was justified.

Something like this should never slip through. It's all the worse when the mod team punishes those who speak up against it while seemingly giving the other side a free pass.
