Forums - Nintendo - How will future Super Mario Maker games be on future consoles? without 2nd screen?

You know a better question would be how will Splatoon work without the second screen, namely super jumping and inkstriking. Shoulda made that thread instead. :L

Is the D-Pad used for anything?? It's been awhile since I played but there's enough buttons there for super jumping. Just assign a button to each teammate.

As for inkstrike, just have a map come up on the screen and move a cursor with the stick.

The real problem is how bad will the UI be with the map being in one of the corners of the TV or needing to press a button to bring up the map.

I am not sure at all we will have future Mario Maker games.

It looks like it's no.1 this week in Japan and has now sold well on both 3DS and Wii U.

Nintendo doesn't one off ideas that actually sell this well (and no, Metroid generally does not put up these kinds of sales before someone brings that up).

Anything from Nintendo that sells 2-3+ million worldwide is pretty much gaurunteed to get more iterations.

Nintendo's system is fairly simply

Sub-1 million sales worldwide - No sequel, unless the cost of the game is so low that Nintendo is willing to fund another one (read: low odds)

Over 1 million sales worldwide - Fairly decent chance of a sequel.

1.5-2 million sales woldwide - A very high chance of a sequel

Over 2 million sales worldwide - Sequel gaurunteed.

Mitigating factors would be if the game had inflated sales due to things like heavy bundling.

I don't understand what Metroid has anything with Mario Maker!?

Evre 2D Mario platformer has great sales, nothing new here.

To me Mario Maker doesn't seems like new franchise because it's still 2D Mario platformer, to me Mario Maker is more like one time thing, while we will have new type of 2D Mario platformer (not onother NSMB or Mario Maker).

It doesn't need a second screen, even games like #FE or Splatoon doesn't need a 2nd screen

Pray for a mouse controller attachment because even with the rumored motion control it will be a lot less intuitive

NS has a touch screen and IR pointer.

This is a business. There is no "one off" of anything that makes a lot of money.

They early reports coming in for this week is that Mario Maker had huge sales in Japan this week too .... and Nintendo pays more attention to hot Japanese sellers.

Mario Maker is going to not only be on Switch it's going to be one of the major releases for the system.

But Mario Maker is 2D Mario platformer and 2D Mario platformer always make a lot of money, so nothing really new here, its not like Mario Maker is something similar to Splatoon like completely new IP, its still 2D Mario platformer that already before made lot of money.

I am not sure we will have Mario Maker on Switch, we already have new 3D Mario game for launch, and Nintendo definitely working on new kind of 2D Mario platformer.

Doesn't the Switch have a touchscreen? Why should it be different than designing levels on the gamepad, then?
