Eh, it was a lot of fan service to me. I know people like that, but the rise of writing that prioritises fan service is a trend in films I'm really getting tired of. It certainly wasn't a bad film of course.

There are enough similarities that I can see why people say that about Episode VII, but I enjoyed the movie anyways. |
Right? Besides, by that logic saying VII sucked would also mean IV sucked.

it was a great movie but I would rank it below both episode III, V and VI at least. So it is in the top four :).
| Dark_Feanor said: No, it is just OK. Kudos to Disney for salvaging a patchwork mess of plot points and discarded characters. Look how they set up Jyn's cristal neckless but there is no pay-off. Or the mind reading Octopussy. I am suprised critics are not picking it apart. The ending is not that memorable. It is only a confuse battle with inept Stormtroopers. |
Yeah, this movie filled the "death star blowing up so easily plothole" nicely.
I echo others about the character development, characters were amazing but they needed to be more fleshed out. 1st act needed to develop the characters of Ip Man and Last king of Scotland more.
Inept stormtroopers? This is the first time they've shown they can actually hit targets and be deadly lol.
I also liked the OST

I definitely agree with you. Fan service is a bit concerning. Some of the best movies/music/games give fans something they never knew they wanted.
This movie was enjoyable. It ramped up near the end, but I don't think it deserved to be a full theatrical release.
But it was better paced, plotted, and acted than any of the prequels, so I suppose Disney is doing a good job of making a steady return on their investment without damaging the franchise.
for me
Star Wars III
Star Wars V
Star Wars Rogue One
Star Wars IV
Star Wars VI
Star Wars VII
Star Wars I
Star Wars II
i know people will freak out over that but... of well
its crazy to think we still have:
Star Wars VIII
Star Wars Han Solo
Star Wars IX
Star Wars Obi (PLEASE TO GOD)
2018 Hit List: Shadow of the Colossus, Detroit, Dreams, Spider-Man, God Of War, Days Gone, Medievil, Tomb Raider 3, RDR2

After Rogue One I am definitely anticipating the Han Solo movie. I'm thinking it'll probably feature Han and Lando, telling about what Han is refering to in Empire when he says to Chewie "That was a long time ago, I'm sure he's forgotten about that." Maybe even how he Chewie even met.
Then the final anthology-film, I've seen people talking about an Obi-Wan one, or a Darth Vader one. I'm not sure how an Obi-Wan movie would work, because we see or know everything about his life already. His life as a Jedi is told in the prequels and in The Clone Wars, and afterwards on Tatooine he didn't do anything but age. For Darth Vader I could only see it be about him hunting what's left of the Jedi after Sith. I've also read about it being about Boba Fett's life from Attack of the Clones onwards, that could also be interesting.

The movie with Han Solo, Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca is gonna be hype.
The 3rd anthology movie should be about Boba Fett imo but I think there's enough material to start a new anthology trilogy:
-A movie about Leia between VI and VII
-Obi Wan and Qui Gon Quin (with Ewan Mcgreggor and Liam Neeson)
-Darth Vader, or Kylo Ren movie
I also want to see a big budget 5-6 season live action series.

Well, I have to agrre that this was one of the best retcon they could possible have.
HOWEVER most of every other plot points that shoud have tied Jyn´s father work with the rebelion are very confusing.
1- They need to go to another planet, "the Central Imperial Achives", which alone could be a target for the Rebelion for its strategic value or the Senate for investigation.
2- The name of the project is her nickname but her father didn´t know she would be involved in the mission. I assume he expected Saw Guerrera to lead the atack and he would know the file name.
3- Q:Why the Rebelion would want Erso dead as a primary object? A: To create a false tension and a character arch in the movie.
4- How can the rebelion deploy a fleet so fast without any preparation? How fast can one come and go in this galaxy?
5- The fleet was in contact with the rebels base. Why couldn´t they sent the plans imidiatly?
Now the bad retcons
1 - The Rebelion lost the whole fleet in the battle and this is forgotten. Are Bothans more important than hundreds of humans and Mon Calamaris?
2- Leia was in the battle and there is no way she could have fulled Vader she was in a "diplomatic mission".
3- Why would Tarkin trust the Death Star safety? It is not his pet project any more and he knew the plans were compromised.
Things missing
1- The reason Darth Vader is under Tarkin.
2- The Senate unrest and disband.
3- Reasons for punishing Alderan that severe.
Isn't this the 4th prequel already in a series of 8 movies? No thanks, not interested anymore in the franchise.
