As I see it, Nintendo abandons home console market.
As I see it, Nintendo abandons home console market.
First of all, I have to say one thing : Take everything i'm about to say with a grain of salt. Because honestly, I don't believe these rumors myself. I believe the Switch WILL be on Pascal, I believe it will be decently powerful, and I think it will work at AT LEAST 600 TFlops docked, maybe around 300 undocked. But who knows, I'm certainly not a "trustworthy market analyzer" like the source of these rumors.
That being said, saying that it's a "balancing act" and that Nintendo couldn't do any better with the price point they're targeting is simply ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, the Switch IS a revolutionary machine : It takes the basic concept of crossplay(an afterthought, albeit nice sony feature) and makes it a main stay with WAY MORE OPTIONS than the Playstation's crossplay feature. But still, from what we know , EVEN IF the Switch is on Maxwell, they could have gotten much better peformance out of the chip for the same price. Why they're so scared to use the cooling system they put in the system themselves, I have no idea. As someone who deals with my own personal cooling in my PC, it's obvious they could have gotten a decent boost if they used the fans better.
But why not use pascal? Assuming this rumor is true, that is. It would have made it a lot better.
Edit : I was trying to say that the chip they were using, iirc from the reports was underclocked? They should have a much better clock rate with the cooling system.

I'm not sure the two architectures, Maxwell and Pascal, are very different though:

Although not perfect comparisons, they suggest the two are very close to each other.
That doesn't change the fact that Nvidia has already basically confirmed it's Pascal and not Maxwell, and that Pascal is more energy efficient than Maxwell...and that if Nintendo ARE USING MAXWELL...man...they really aren't trying to crank out as much as possible. Some people may think it being on par with the Xbox One was always a pipe dream. But there's so many opportunities where it could at least be close if these rumors aren't true.

Time will tell.

Mini dvd was never a real problem, only an excuse people nowadays use to justify the failure of a console that never should have failed, its kiddy design has way more to do with its failure than the mini dvds. |
It still make porting games a bit harder, thanks to its smaller capacity. However I agree it's not the only problem.
A handheld gamer only (for now).

Do you see Breath of the Wild as a handheld game then?
people lost their boner on performance vs the actual games it can offer...
still day 1 for me :)

I'm not worried since in handheld mode it's pretty close to the wiiU right? So I can just continue to enjoy all Nintendo games on WiiU and not have to upgrade to the Switch correct?
Scorpio get's the 4K UHD BluRay version, XB1 gets the Bluray version, docked Switch gets the DVD version, undocked Switch gets the VCR version.
For Nintendo games, docked Switch will be the Bluray version and undocked will be the DVD version.
People should be happy that Nintendo has closed the gap.
