Yep, a gaming device not being as powerful as other gaming devices is comparable to being in a bus heading for a cliff.........you have perfectly summed up what owning a Switch will be like.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaphor

I know what a metaphor is and the one you used does not in any way, shape or form accurately depict the situation.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Yeah sure but then it would just be another XBox1/PS4 both of which share a lot of the same games. That's not terribly exciting for the industry in my opinion.

If people want the latest-and-greatest hardware, they should go PC.

Except it wouldn't be, because it has all of the Nintendo exclusives, experiences only available to that powerful Nintendo console, plus all the regular third party stuff (that brings in the casuals) running on par with PS4/XB1. I don't see how being inferior in terms of power makes it stand out, aside from maybe " wow, this game run so well on this weak console."

The point of the Switch isn't power, it's portability. The standout feature is being able to play the game you're playing at home wherever you please: in college between class sessions or on the train or on a plane as was shown in the reveal.

I'm liking the Switch since I'd love to be able to play a game whether I'm in bed, my backyard, or in front of my television.

It would be great to see Nintendo actually make a powerful console for once, since they already have the talent to make great software,

And somehow the need to waste 3 times the money and time to make the same games just prettier would be so beneficial for Nintendo... We live in an age where triple A games need to cost hundreds of milions and sell ridiculous numbers to break alone, Nintendo has made clear in several ocasions that that's not the kind of trend they want to follow, even with a more powerful hardware they wouldn't necessarily make high end games just because the hardware can.

They used to do that in the past. Even then they still make a stupid decision like sticking with the cartridge and mini dvd.

A handheld gamer only (for now).

Mini dvd was never a real problem, only an excuse people nowadays use to justify the failure of a console that never should have failed, its kiddy design has way more to do with its failure than the mini dvds.

I think this is perfectly fine. You will get Ninty games that will work on the go and at home. You don't need X1 performance to make a good Mario game or Zelda. As long as they keep the price reasonable via options in happy.

I really hope they release a console bundle for £199 that comes without the joycons. Just the docking station, tablet and controller with a game. They can sell the full whack at £249, I don't care as long as the option is there.

"We're all in a bus driving towards a cliff. Can we stop complaining and wait to see how this'll unfold? Maybe there are a bunch of cushions at the bottom of that canyon."

That statement would be a much better fit in a thread about the VGC community and the mods.

I'd be the person breaking the engine lol

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Doesn't worry me either. It's better than wii-u, which i still enjoy, and its tremendously better than the 3ds.

The problem is that western 3rd party developers have shown they won't support a system if it's significantly weaker than the other platforms their game is releasing on. It's alot of extra work to make lower quality assets just so a game can run on a system. I fear Switch will be just like Wii U when it comes to western 3rd parties, it will start out strong then lose all support. The good news is that Japanese devs should support Switch, they supported Vita and soon Switch will be the most powerful handheld, not Vita,

No, western 3rd party developers have shown they won't support a system if their games SALES are significantly lower, quite a big difference, they don't care about making their games to look the more advanced they can, they care about selling the more copies they can.

Nintendo has historically had two routes to success with their consoles. The first is to build a powerful machine that can win over third parties and graphically dominates the competition (NES, SNES and attempted unsuccessfully by the GCN). The second is to go the innovation route and use slower hardware but subvert the competition by carving out a new and previously untapped section of the market (Wii, DS and unsuccessfully attempted by the Wii U). I think that recent hardware specs news makes it obvious that Nintendo will be attempting the innovation route again. The Switch will NOT be getting third party developers unless it first catches fire and builds a strong user-base on its own.

The problem that I have is that the Switch doesn't seem like an especially innovative concept. A handheld that can be connected to a TV has been attempted before and it's just not obvious to me how it will attract a new audience the way that the Wii or the DS did. Hopefully, Nintendo has some unannounced surprises that might give the Switch a different angle in the market. One thing for sure is that console 3rd party developers are not going to be attracted to the Switch based on its hardware alone.
