Meh, the simple advantage that Sony has in their game library on PSN is enough for me to choose PSN any day. + I never experienced a downtown on my PS4/Vita/PS3 so maybe I am one of the lucky ones

It isn't often that I experience PSN downtime, either. I do get a chuckle out of those that want to ignore Steam, though. It's does just about everything both console networks do, while offering vastly more games, far better networking, and I can now use both a PS4 or Xbox controller on it. Best of everything. |
But for real i would be surprised if steam had downtimes they don't do anything else then manage their App they get i think 30% of every game sold they don't invest in anything else, seriously i would be surprised if it had any downtime except when they are doing maintenance.

I don't mean xbox gold or silver I mean xbox live. For example https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/3efjfh/will_the_xbox_one_ever_get_real_offline_lan/ "As far as I'm aware there is no real offline LAN functionality with the Xbox One. This is a real problem for tournaments. Has anything been said about this?" or https://xbox.uservoice.com/forums/363186--new-ideas/suggestions/16396939-offline-lan-gaming-setup https://gamurs.com/articles/no-offline-lan-support-could-hurt-halo-5 "All of these issues came to a head when Xbox Live went down during the HCS Season 2 Finals in July, which ultimately caused an hours-long delay on the event’s final day. Furthermore, this problem once again presented itself during the Gamescom Invitational when an internet outage at ESL Arena halted play for roughly 20 minutes. Now, you may be wondering why Xbox Live going down would cause issues at a LAN event, and therein lies the problem. Che Chou, the Franchise Media Director at 343, has said that, in order to LAN, the Xbox One’s need to be connected over the same Wi-Fi network and still need to ping to the Xbox Live servers. Although the connection doesn’t require any substantial bandwidth, the issue still remains since it means that the ability to actually host a LAN is dependent on factors that may very well be outside of one’s control |
Ah, okay. I quite misunderstood what you were talking about. I haven't tried that so I believe it is true. I was talking about split-screen local multiplayer.
On console, PSN has been arguably better if you look at the way Microsoft has behaved.
In 2013, PSN beat Xbox Live in speed test comparisons. The Xbox Live party system, messaging system, and matchmaking system at launch were notoriously criticized for being terrible. Xbox Live lacked many features PSN had and still does.
Years later Microsoft tried to improve the speed of Xbox Live. They did so by copying the PS4 user interface. In fact, most of the updates Microsoft released these past few years were mostly adding features PSN already had and fixing things that were already working on PSN. However, the Xbox Live network options in the snap window still crash and lag more than I experience on PSN.
Microsoft also copied Trophy Rarity, PSN Communitees, real player names, player bios, activity feeds and other things. It makes you wonder why Xbox Live has been playing catch up when Microsoft has been charging for multiplayer since 2002. Sony has only been charging since 2013.
As for the "outages", people don't remember the 8 straight days of confirmed Xbox Live outages that happened back in Jan./Feb. while PSN went about 6 months without any major outages. Xbox Live had an outage about a week ago but very few media outlets reported it. We know that many PSN/Xbox Live outages are caused by DDOS attacks and neither of these networks are immune to them. One network can get attacked more than the other which doesn't make another network better.
Despite all of these facts and flaws of Xbox Live, Microsoft claims, "Xbox Live is the network that won't let you down."
This whole "Xbox Live is better than PSN" argument that is being pushed is the result of "proof by assertion". It seems like Microsoft is desperate and they're using misleading ads and propaganda to sell their product. Gaming news outlets eat it right up.
I would say PSN has been more complete or innovative in features since launch while Xbox Live has been playing catch up and closed the gap considerably. As of this moment, I found very negligible difference in terms of speed and reliability between the two. Neither go down more than the other to be noticeable or a problem. In terms of features, I like how PSN has SP and the ability to use a normal profile picture. Xbox Live allows you to change your user name.

Pretty much that ^^
So why not advertise it. Good for Microsoft.

That is true. But I either take all or nothing. Considering that lately I do 90% of my work on an ultrabook, for me Steam is pretty much a no-go at the moment. The PS4 remains my gaming hub for the moment, and even so I alrady own far more games than the ammount I will eventually end up finishing

This is where PSN needs to match LIVE but any features on PSN that aren't on LIVE are of no consequence.
The PS5 Exists.

I love the way old Microsoft is back.
Start of the gen they thought they had to be all nice to make a comeback. So they got all 'PC' and tried that approach. But as we know it hasn't worked. So they're trying aggressive MS again. It won't work either. I wonder will they ever switch back to nice Microsoft again.
This gen has been the gen of 180's for sure and it's only 3 years old.
