Fatal Frame V or ZombiU?

Fatal Frame V 23 69.70%

ZombiU 10 30.30%

Total:33

As I'm playing ZombiU at the moment for the first time and entering the Buckingham Palace, I somehow thought of that other Wii U horror game, Fatal Frame V. I like both games very much, honestly. But I was wondering which one I like more than the other, and the answer is not that easy. While they only share the genre, they couldn't be any more different. So many contrasts!

  • Eastern horror versus western horror
  • Ghosts versus Zombies
  • Slow and creepy versus fast and shocking
  • Third person view versus first person view
  • Different main colors: black and orange versus green.
  • The main element of uncomfortability the player is supposed to get is water in FFV, while it's chaos and destruction in ZombiU
  • Very low sales that are impossible to analyse due to an eshop release versus a million seller
  • Three different main characters with intertwining plots versus zero because you play random avatars

For those of you who happen to have played both. Which one do you like more?

Fatal Frame V period. Genuinely scary. Visually impressive.

Zombi U is a mediocre launch game that was interesting in concept but meh otherwise. Visually not great.

Fun fact Zombi U is a reboot of Ubisoft's first ever game. Zombi

Well, I have ZombiU and it's all right I guess. Fatal Frame V is a game that I really wanted but I didn't buy because it didn't get a physical release here and Nintendo refuse to get rid of region-lock for the Wii U.

Yeah, I've read that in a magazine. That's really interesting stuff.

I am one of those fans who is in LOVE with ZombiU. I like chaotic destructive "run or you'll be killed" horror. I like having a sniper rifle zoomed and aimed by my second screen delivering head shots. Fear of loosing my survival gear if killed. It's AWESOME! Not a game for everyone though apparently.

I looked at the demo of FFV and would have had no issue downloading as I'm all digital already. I just didn't feel scared by it. Ghost don't frighten me. I don't identify as a weak japanese girl. When I play a horror game I want to be a tough as nail grenade tosser. So that's my opinion on the two.

ZombiU is my favorite Wii U game. Always will be..

I'll have to go with ZombiU. I love the way it used the gamepad to create tension.

I really like the way how death is handled in ZombiU. While in other games you die and, oh well, you just try again, here I feel somehow guilty for not being careful enough and I somehow mourn about the characters I lost and feel bad to start over again with someone new. This gives so much tension!

I think ZombiU is the better game overall, pretty interesting concept and great creating tension but I do like more the atmosphere of Fatal Frame V.

I have to admit I'm not a big fan of any of those, I think the only horror game I really liked this gen was Soma, but they aren't bad.

Fatal Frame is not one bit scary. Its soooooo repetitive and boring. Horrible level design, after 8 hours, you've seen everything, your better of quitting there. Terrible controls, so much backtracking, story that goes nowhere for most the game, its just not a good game I would recomend to anyone. I liked Zombie U and have found it to be a fun game, I've yet to finish it, but it is a bit scary, but its not perfect. So I would have to pick Zombie U.

But then again, Fatal Frame's atmosphere is kick ass! Only Silent Hill games can match this aspect, imo. The symbolism, the metaphors, the text bits, the lore, the ghosts and their backgrounds, the scenery, the cast, it all fits so perfectly together and gives me some kind of an erie and uncomfortable feeling. It makes my neck hair stand straight! I'm loving it! Also, I like the fact that this game is a prove that you don't need guns and heavy armory in every game.
