Nintendo released the GameCube version of Twilight Princess about a month after the the Wii launched, so I have no doubt that they would release the Wii U version of Breath of the Wild.

The difference is that TP on Gamecube never seemed to be struggling to run on it. I'm also not convinced that Nintendo's actions a decade ago mean they'll act the same way today.

The game is still months away from release, so I have no doubts that there will be some more optimization for it before release.

Honestly, I think the way it ran at E3 is fine, it's not worse than a lot of successful games, but it does make for a convenient excuse for Nintendo to axe it.

I know what I'm about to mention is a remaster, but Wind Waker HD had some frame rate issues in some areas and yet it's out. I think as long as it's stable 30 fps for the most part, it should be fine for them to release it. Besides, I don't think they can afford to get backlash for cancelling the Wii U version.

Oh I agree that its framerate is no good reason not to release it, and I certainly hope they're afraid of the backlash they'd get for cancelling the Wii U version. The problem is, with the way Wii U is already fading into obscurity, I can see them waiting until Switch is out, then cancelling the Wii U version when everyone's too excited about their new console to care much about the old one.

This is freaking insane...

Every time Nintendo has spoeken about BOTW.. they say WiiU
Every time they have showed it.. there is a WiiU logo
Reggie talked about WiiU version on national TV.. 2 weeks ago
We know there is a playeble WiiU version
Its good business in all ways to

Still.. After all that.. Some people still act like its a possibility that Nintendo should have been lying about it all..

The majority of people who play this game are going to play it on Switch. In fact, I'd also argue that a majority of Wii U owners will play this on Switch as well, and not on Wii U. A lot of early Switch adopters are going to be Wii U owners, desperate for new Nintendo games. Like myself :P

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

I think it's unlikely due to bad PR, but things like that happen.
Final Fantasy XV and The Last Guardian were advertised as PS3 games for a few years.
Crowdfunded games where people pay specifically for the WiiU version have seen that version canceled. Etc.

I wonder what was the reception of the news of FFXV and Last Guardian moving to PS4. Final Fantasy has the pedigree of that of Zelda despite the reception XIII and it's sequels got. And SIE Japan Studio is among the best studios like Naughty Dog, Nintendo EAD, Blizzard, CD Projekt Red, etc. So you have your share of passionate fans waiting eagerly for these games to release on PS3.

The Last Guardian is a new IP and Final Fantasy is a third party series with several games on PS3. So no, I don't think it's comparable to the Zelda delays.

Apparently there were a lot of people excited to play The Last Guardian on PS3 then ultimately have to wait years until it was a PS4 exclusive. With Ico and SoTC, fans were eager to know more and get their hands on it just like BoTW. And although Zelda doesn't have new main series game on Wii U, it's not like Zelda fans were left off to dry. Hyrule Warriors and HD remakes/remastered of WW and TP were released. Then you got OoT and MM 3D, Triforce Heroes, and ALBW on 3DS. Some would complain they added too much from the series before releasing BoTW.

Not necessarily saying you're wrong but it's an interesting comparison in general. As I stated in the previous comment, I wonder about the reception about those games changing consoles after years of supposedly being planned for the last gen consoles.

From what I recall TLG only had like one trailer during the whole PS3 era with the next footage emerging when it was a PS4 game only, this is a far cry from Zelda which is much more heavily cover in comparison to these two with actual recent footage and public hands on events. It was far more clear that Versus which went on to be XV and TLG had a big chance of being canned on their platforms, the former was continuously put on hold so other projects could be completed while the latter had internal conflicts, both projects also were never given release dates or coverage comparable to BOTW.

Essentially these games weren't just randomly canned overnight like what some people are betting will happen with BOTW, the's no real reason to can BOTW other than a cause a PR disaster.
