Noo.... more.... so tired.... of seeing... PS3 beats Xbox360 for "x" weeks. Lets just all agree that the only way 360 is going to beat PS3 on a worldwide basis is if something MASSIVE comes out, or a price drop? k?

Someone else will make a thread claiming the win for PS3 next week and the following week, etc.

I'm fairly certain we won't see a ww win for the 360 ever again.

Sony has won Europe by well over 60k (when adjusted), Americas will be 20k win to PS3 over XBox 360. The sales of GT 5 P will be adjusted to 500k of when all sales data is in and is adjusted. Japan will see PS3 get to 20k and XBox 360 will limp to around 2000 for the week. The DS and Wii outsell everyone again but yeah they are much cheaper than the two HD gaming consoles. PSP struggles but holds off XBox 360. Wii only just edges out PS3. Weekly consoles sale predictions: DS around 380k Wii around 300k PS3 around 270k PSP around 220k XBox 360 170k Software sales PS3 huge boost in numbers: Thank you GT 5 Prologue launch in Others. Wii and DS both lead the way in software sales as usual.
Comment people on this analysis for the week. |
currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

In 18 weeks the PS3 sold 721,767 more consoles than the XBox 360. At this rate it will take 165 weeks to erase the remaining gap of 6.6 million consoles. So the PS3 will still have a smaller installed base than the XBox 360 until June 2011.
This is Gamecube-come-from-behind-in-year-5 territory - not really a win for Sony at all. These small weekly wins by the PS3 just aren't good enough to erase its late launch.
@Zassk, but with current momentum, a price drop, some familiar titles, and a couple of holiday seasons will consistently increase that gap per week. The 360 already has some of it's massive players on the field, is already cheaper, and it under-performed to the "considerably inferior" lineup the PS3 had over the holidays. America was the 360's haven, and now the PS3 is rapidly closing ground on it. Don't expect the sales gap to remain this steady :P

You haven't accounted for
The PS3's exclusives
Home (it's effect is arguables)
Price Drop / New SKU
Holiday Season
Each one of these factors is enough for the PS3 to get whithin 2-3 million of the 360's install base by New Years.
In general I agree we probably don't need this kind of post every week, but then where would the site be without the weekly 'outsold again by x' post, the 'DS trounces the PSP' post, the '360 exclusives may be coming to PS3' post, its close relative 'the PS3 exclusives may be coming to 360' post and the straight out biased 'let me tell you why my favourite console is doing great' posts...
For those bored of these posts on 1st April I recommend watching the flying penguins on BBC... fly you little suckers, fly!
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
Don't forget that Microsoft still has a lot of cards it could play--as does Sony, but I'm just saying this battle ain't over by a long shot. GTA will be quite interesting.
