Forums - Nintendo - Jimmy Fallon Among The First To Play Breath of the Wild on Nintendo Switch!!! (Also Super Mario Run)

Hype Level?

The entire video from 4:48 on could best be summed up as Jimmy trying desperately not to have a heart attack on national television (and before he could play Zelda) xD . Just breath Jimmy, breath!

But seriously, that framerate in mobile mode is looking freaking solid! And the image quality is looking up to scratch, though we can't say much. And that switch was smooth as butter too. I'm just so freaking hyped right now. And another thing, it is always amazing to see real, genuine excitement and hype from hosts on shows like this. His hands were literally shaking holding the Switch! And I love how he knew like everything about the device that rumors and videos had shown.

Anyway, is it March yet? I'm sold.

I'm curious to see how journalist will handle nominating switch games for various GOTY contenders since this thing is a handheld does that mean we could see Breath Of The Wild win a ton of best Moblie/Handheld game awards? Which would be insane to think of a game like that in terms of scale being on a portable console in 2016.

It likely won't be categorized as a handheld for the sake of awards since Nintendo sells it and markets it as primarily orriented towards the home console experience.  But that raises a bigger question:  when the 3DS fades out, if Nintendo does not launch a successor or if the successor is just a different form factor of the Switch, how will they determine which Switch games go in the handheld/mobile category?  Do any?  Do they all?

The viewing angle is quite good! I think it could be an IPS backlit screen which would be super fap worthy (unless its already been confirmed!)

That black rectangle around thé screen is such an horrible choice of design, its so stupid, make thé device muchbigger for nothing

I hope its not thé final design

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

To be honest, I wasn't even watching Fallon tonight.
I knew Reggie would be on there but I was like, "Meh, they're probably just gonna show of Super Mario run (which they did) and talk about Nintendo's movement into mobile games and what they have planned later. Whatever, I don't care," and went about my day.
Then I see Nintendo Switch trending on my Facebook page, I click on it, see this, and I'm like "WAIT, WHAT?!?!?"

NOW MY HYPE THRUSTERS ARE SET TO OVERDRIVE!!!

The size of the device is probably more about the internals than the screen.  Console design is a balance of cost, performance, and aesthetics with aesthetics being the least important.  So they probably just tried to make the game between screen size and device size more aesthetically acceptable is all.  Better a glossy black border than the screen just ending too soon.  Well, in my opinion anyway.  Tablets have gotten away with that exact look for a long long time :P

It was cool seeing Jimmy go "this can't be what im hoping..." and then flip out when the Switch was shown in person. Zelda runs sooo much better here both on and off dock from the looks of things. That's the type of marketing Nintendo has to continue doing. The Wii U never got, if I recall, that type of marketing even before release.

I'm fine with the size. Who the hell puts their portables in their jean pocket anyway. That's for your cell phone, wallet, and keys.

Larger size = better chipset because you have more internal space for heat to dissipate from a more powerful chip.
