I'm playing this now and I say it's just as good or better than SotC. And I've played Shadow a lot on PS2 and thought it was one of the best games for that console.

Just beat it and have to say I'm completely satisfied. Definitely both what I expected and what I wanted.

I can totally understand people who are put off by the frustrating controls, but as someone who's played Shadow of the Colossus repeatedly with the last year, I was fully prepared for jank and awkwardness from the controls and camera.

A lot of people seem to be frustrated with Trico not following instructions, but I never really encountered a moment where Trico was a burden. Once I figured out what to do, it didn't take much goading to get Trico to do what I needed him to.

Yep. Trico only takes one to four commands, before he gets the message and does what he needs to do. People are complaining that they have to spend an extra five or ten seconds issuing orders. They all think Trico should jump into action after a single command, as if he's a well trained circus animal, and not a wild creature.

The game works better too when you behave more like Trico. Look around, plan your next move, execute carefully, repeat. Don't fight the camera. I feel a lot of control issues people are experiencing are from trying to play the game like Ratchet and Clank. Running around at full speed trying to steer with the camera. Or perhaps I'm a gaming god not having any problems with it :p

I played until after 3am again last night, the game is amazing. Already can't wait to start a second playthrough.

I'm glad they didn't make his AI immediately respond to commands. That would make him feel more like a tool to platform through the area, and less like a creature you're trying to communicate with. It takes patience, like with a real animal. If it didn't, Trico wouldn't seem as alive.

But I think it helped that I didn't necessary get the game to play it, but rather experience it, so I was more fascinated by the moments were Trico was surveying the area trying to understand the meaning of my commands rather than frustrated by it. It was really interesting to just watch his animations play out and his ai parse information. There was only one time where his ear had some strange collision with a cliffside, but otherwise he behaved in a strikingly natural way, which is especially impressive to me given how many tight spaces the game forced him into.

Yesterday I finished this great game, at first I had doubts about its technical problems, but the game was liking me more and more as it progressed, it is a memorable and unique game, one of my favorites of ps4

Pretty nice score all things considered.

one of the best games this year. its so special

Finished it last night.

Camera, controls and performance can be a touch wonky but apart from that I really, really enjoyed it. Looks amazing (no idea how it was ever going to run on the PS3), the small amount of combat it has is pretty fun, the puzzles can get a touch frustrating if Trico is being disobedient but are mostly pretty good.

And the story...oh my gosh it made me grab my pearls towards the end.

The only reasons I wouldn't give it a 10/10 is because of the camera and performance issues (which unfortunately can make things a bit frustrating). Solid 8/10. Will play many, many more times.

Up to 84!!! I hope the troll reviews azzanation was on about appear soon so my prediction can be right again xD

Great to hear people are loving the game. An excellent exclusive.
