Digital for PC indies, because they need the money, and ten dollars for an indie is a good price. Physical for new games because I can get a physical copy for $45 on release day. $50 for a digital copy is way too much to pay for a brand new game. It should be at least $35 for a brand new game on release day on steam. They don't have to pay for shipping, packaging, or manufacturing. Also, the brick and mortar store doesn't get a cut out of it.
I like physical media, especially if it comes with a nice box (like a hard- or steelcover), a booklet and maybe some little art leaflets.
I tend to buy special editions when going physical. I did it with my studio Ghibli DVD collection, wich I'm keeping despite switching to Blue Ray, just because the boxes and extras are nice. I also do it with video games. If a game has an instruction manual, like shovel Knight, COUNT ME IN MOTHERFUCKER!
Other than all that I also like the convinience of digital media, the seamless switch between software, films, music whatever all in the palm of your hand. For a lot of games I wish I could have the convinience of both.
I'd like to be able to get a single digital copy tied to my account with my physical purchase. Yes, it would probably get in the way of sales because people would exploit it, but it would still be nice.
I don't just buy physical, I order steelbook cases from other countries if they didn't come out with one for the movie/game I want it for in the US. I'm that guy
I am Iron Man
Digital for everything, though steam have done their best over the years to change my mind with their BS. Digital saves shelf space, no more damaged or lost games and can easily access them on a new machine.
I love physical, but I buy digital cause of sales and cheap stuff. Like, Batman for 10 bucks or Dragon Age for 3 bucks...

I really doubt that the few hundred people voting on a site dedicated to game sales are a representative group of the buying habits of the big mass.

Do you expect the general consumer to be more or less inclined to buy digital?

I would say far more inclined, the general consumer isn't a game collector, they don't care about holding some physical piece of property. Price, ease of purchase and convenience trump all other concerns

Yet they are the ones trading games in and keeping the 2nd hand market in business, while buying the games at large retail stores that advertise them. The average internet connection is also a lot slower than what you would likely find on this site.
