Forums - Gaming - Guillermo del Toro: 'F**k Konami', cancelling Silent Hills was 'moronic'

I'm actually more pissed off that he had Pacific Rim taken from him. He was pretty passionate about it, and the sequel, and now part 2 is in the hands of somebody else, with an entirely different cast.

What?! No!

I hope he gets a chance to make another movie in the vein of Pan's Labyrinth as I adore it.

As much as i hate konami (mg, sh, and castlevania), i dont think this kind of comment is needed. Even kojima seem to already move on and prefer to be quiet abt his past with konami.

This.   really  suprised  people still crying about it after  1  year of  cancell  of  this  game. .

The problem, as near as I can tell, is that Kojima is that stereotypical artist that doesn't give a shit about the business side of his art. Konami exists to make money. They make great games only as a way to achieve that end. They have a legal and moral responsibility to take care of their shareholders. They don't have any obligation to let an artist burn through unlimited cash to achieve his vision.

Yes, the business side is responsible to keep restrains, but some may end up limiting the revenue... if a guy have proven record to have fantastic project, that are expensive but get good margins the company needs to be aware of how to control the costs the right way without creating additional problems.

That's what I'm saying.  All signs point to Konami not being able to keep Kojima's games from destroying their budgets.  Also, they're moving into a different part of the gaming industry, where Kojima-type game creators probably cannot operate profitably.  Therefore, they had to get rid of the guy.

Silent hill was well received, PT was well received, the team and actor behind the Silent Hill game where gaining hype, everything was set for another success for Konami.

and....... its gone.

He is right, it was one of the worst business decisions possible, they where much better off finishing Silent Hill and breaking up with Kojima after that game in a normal way.

But as it goes, how many people repeat it doesn't matter, Konami is not a thing anymore anyway in the gaming space, they are ruining metal gear and are making a "ok" soccer game, nobody really buys because it doesn't have the licenses it needs to succeed.

"Fuck Konami" is something we can all agree on.

How much of damage does a 3 letter word "EGO" do. Baffles me.

Let's all be real. He's not wrong. Suikoden, MGS, Silent Hill, Castlevania, Bomberman the list goes on. It would do the industry well if Konami just sold all of its fucking IPs to Sony and washed it's hands of Gaming. Because they clearly could not give a single fuck.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Yes, nothing against they moving on and etc, but they certainly played it totally wrong.
