Um, the best selling fighting game is super smash bros and the best selling jrpg is pokemon

Playstation still is more diverse overall.

Playstation gets full third party support. Just because someone is a Playstation fan that doesn't mean he's also a Sony fan. I know a lot of guys who own a PS4 that aren't interested in any of Sony's games.

Nintendo's consoles are mostly supported by themselves or Japanese third party studios who make similar games.

Nintendo fans buy a wide varriety of games actually:

Anime: Fire Emblem, Pokémon

Shooting: Splatoon, Metroid

Fighting: Super Smash Bros., Pokkén Tournament (outsold Street Fighter V ;))

Roleplay: Pokémon, Fire Emblem, Golden Sun, Earthbound/Mother, Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi

Playstation is still more diverse.

If you want the most diverse games library than you would be gaming on PC. SInce that platform offers everything. MODs, RTS, MMO, MOBA, Horror, Simulators and Indie games are prime example here. Console library misses out on so much.

It is objectively true that most PS4 owners by those mega AAA games, just like XBox owners.  But, I don't see any evidence to support the claim that PS owners buy any games simply to prop up genres for "list wars".  

The fact of the matter is, PS systems have enjoyed more equal distribution throughout the world, whereas Xbox has been largely a westen thing.  So, it would naturally follow that PS would get more varied software, to fit the more varied user base.  

In same ways, Nintendo is in a different place.  They're really not directly competing with Sony and MS, so they're harder to fit into this paradigm.

Yeah I definitely agree. Playstation is by a country mile my preferred platform to play on. Just so diverse.
