Forums - Gaming - Scorpio being more powerful and more expensive than Pro is good for console industry

Holidays 2017:

Nintendo Switch : 249$ (low)  (if you love nintendo, or also handhelds)

XB1s/PS4s : 199-249$ (low)  (budget option)

PS4pro : 349$ (mid)  (best bang for buck)

XBscorpio : 449-499$ (high)  (highest performance)

Scorpio is a competing with PS4P. The main difference between PS4 and Xbone was 50% more powerfful gfx chip 18CU compared to 12CU and obviously the ram GDDR5 vs DDR3 + 32mb esram. Going by tflops Scorpio gfx chip is around 42% more powerful. Ram bandwidth is more and cpu is unknown. So going by this the difference is similar to the advantage PS4 had over Xbone. So instead of 1800P it will be 2160P or 1440P vs 1800P in favor of Scorpio.

One big difference though.

While ps4 was a decent amount more powerful than xb1 it was $100 cheaper at launch.

If scorpio is a lot more powerful it won't be cheaper.  That's the difference.  You'd obviously pick the base ps4 over the xbox1 in terms of value and the xb1 won't have a huge value advantage over the Pro. in fact the low pro price point is likely much more appealing for those who want to dabble in 4k. and by the time the scorpio releases Sony will be able to cut the price if needs be.

Definitely Scorpio is going to  more expensive, a big heavy console and probably have power brick too.  But the performance difference will just be the resolution bump like 900P vs 1080P or 720P vs 900P we see now. However this time Scorpio will have resolution advantage. But they are both competing with each other and are comparable.

I fully agree, and I think they need to go even further. As I have said before, you can buy $1000+ Blu-ray players, $3000 Recievers, and $25,000 TV's, and all of these markets offer the same, but lesser experiences for as low as $100.

I would absolutly love to see PS5 launch with 3 tiers. Base model at $399.99, a mid tier model at $699.99, and a full bells and whistles model at $999.99. The same for Xbox Post Scorpio, and even PSVR.

I want to see options, and I want to see consoles grow to become much, much more than just game devices. The ultimate would be for Xbox and PlayStation to be the iPhone and Galaxy of the Home computer market, and push PC/MAC the way of the Blackberry.

With Xbox and PlayStation being massive cash cows for MS and Sony, they deserve to have Flagship level products built around them.

So you want PC gaming dead and ruled by Sony and MS?, I always thought you had some dictatorship and hatred for another market, but I didn't think you were that forward.

The PC market will continue to exist as it always has done. Sony won't be ruling it with a console, neither will MS let alone Nintendo, PC's are used to make our games, to run just about everything on this rock, the alst thing NASA is going to want to buy is a Sony PS20 for their space program.

I do wish you'd be a little  more considerate towards those that want more options rather than "get out, go the way of the dodo" type reduction in options.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

its actually 4

It's going to save gaming, of course it's good for the consumer and industry

Blackberry is still around, but it is almost strictly for business use. Listen, I don't want to se PC die. I know that there is a need for the platform. From hardcore gamers, to science, to photo and video editors, and much more, there are a lot of things extreamly high end computers are good for.

There are a lot of areas where PC's are extream wastes of money, and create complications for businesses though as well. A great example is the company I work at. They bought dozens of Dell OptiPlex 7040 PC's for employees of all levels. These PC's ran roughly $1000.00 a piece, and only have an i5, and 4GB of RAM, they didn't even opt for the 8GB model. After purchasing them, they realised that they couldn't handle a few of the applications many people use daily, so they ended up going back and getting 1 of the 8GB models for each area. Even these are struggling to run the apps that were an issue before because they are GPU limited.

Had my company instead struck a deal with MS to use Xbox Ones for their fleet of computers, they could have saved $1,000's of dollars, and had devices more than capable of running the programms they need the employees to access to complete their work. Then had they went even further and made it a company wide effort, they could have assured that they had standard hardware across the entire company, and not just one business unit. This would have made programming much easier, and allowed them to focus more on making our tools better, instead of constantly trying to figure out why the programms run fine in one area, or on one computer, but won't run right or even open on another.

So, I don't think PC's should completely die off, but I do think they should become more niche, and focused in the areas that they can be benificial, or bring joy to those that need/want extreamly high levels of brute power. For the rest of use though, consoles offer much btter value, and create a much better ecosystem for creaters. If consoles can take over PC's in global sales, and more people are using them daily, then software creaters can focus more clearly on a very narrow set of hardware to create much more optimized, and advanced programms with much less time. And, just like with my company, they could focus on making better products, instead of trying to figure out why things arn't working across the 1000's of different device they are trying to run their programs on.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. For quite a long time console gaming is loosing money on hardware and minimum spec. It will always be behind spec but price wise the loss hardware model isn't good. We need upgraded model to let change consumers mentality.
