Forums - Nintendo - Bethesda’s Todd Howard on Switch: “One of the best demos I’ve ever seen”, promises support

"On board" doesn't mean much if they bail after 1 game.

Also why Skyrim ... a 5 year old game, how many people seriously are going to buy this game twice to be able to play it portably with worse graphics.

If Bethesda commits to the next Elder Scrolls game on Switch, a brand new game, then I will be impressed.

The Wii U had COD, Assassin's Creed, FIFA, NBA 2K, Madden, and Batman in the launch window, that's like 6/8 or 9 top "hardcore IP" of the day (GTA, Skyrim were the two missing ones).

Is Switch even getting COD? Probably not Battlefield, because EA said only one game and that's almost assuredly FIFA. GTA? Switch will likely be missing several here too.

We'll see but I think the only third party launch window game that's going to sell great is Minecraft (assuming this is there for launch) and Monster Hunter XX. Nintendo fans are going to do their usual thing and buy Mario 3D Switch and Splatoon and then sit around waiting for Zelda.

You know, I've said this before and people like you never listen but I suppose I will say it one more dang time just for good measure:  the word of some pulbishers is worth much more than others.  EA and Ubi?  Absolutely, doubt them.  They will try anything once.  Same with Activision.  They will try any console once a bail at the first sign of trouble.  Bethesda, however, has historically stuck with it even when platforms give them trouble.  The PS3 gave them endless headaches and cost them goodness knows how much money to figure out how to patch and work with but they stuck with it.  They generally stick to their guns even if it takes them time to get it done.  Which is why I shrugged when EA, Ubi, Activision, and their ilk praised the Switch but sat up when Bethesda did.  Bethesda doesn't just try anything once, as pointed out in the OP, Bethesda has never supported Nintendo's hardware in an real or note worthy way, barring some cheapo efforts on the NES.  And we'll have to see what happens with Skyrim.  So far "SKYRIM ON THE GO!" has been one of the most commonly posted exciting things from the Switch trailer so it's entirely possible that those unimpressed by the graphics jump on PS4 *will* be intrigued by portability.

What I find really hilarious is that you doubt Bethesda but have unwavering confidence that Capcom - freaking Capcom - will put in the effort to bring Monster Hunter XX to the Switch.  I will be shocked if we see a Monster Hunter on Switch before the end of 2018, much less launch.  They will ride the budget 3DS route for as long as humanly posible.

So where's Fallout 4? Is that coming too Bethesda, or are you just giving a 5 year old game and thinking that will sell.

And sure lets criticize Capcom too. They haven't supported even the 3DS how I would have liked. Monster Hunter fine, but where's everything else? Nothing after the launch window really, no more Street Fighter, Resident Evil Revaltions 2 got released on Vita (laugh out fucking loud) instead of the 3DS, etc. etc.

A lot of these Japanese companies really did bail out on even the 3DS, the support the 3DS had early on was quite good -- Kingdom Hearts, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Tekken, Dead or Alive, Ridge Racer, Metal Gear Solid ... and then .... basically just Monster Hunter/Yokai Watch/Dragon Quest and nothing but.

They haven't said, we'll have to wait and see honestly.  I've said it was a good sign, we'll have to see what it brings forth ultimately.  I will await January to really make any big assumptions.

And that was my point, putting confidence in Capcom is ridiculous, that company is run by the Dodo bird from Looney Toons.

And the companies bailing on 3DS was probably due to the fact many thought there was no money in handhelds and only money in mobile.  A fact that turned out to be false like so many assumptions made by big execs early this gen.  But by the time they realized the ammount of money they were missing it was a bit late to try and jump back on the bus.  They had no rep on the 3DS and it would take 1 to 2 years to get a game ready for the system.

We still dont know if there will be more Bethesda games, almost any 3rd party games are not yet announced, we need to wait January. Actual Skyrim Remaster will probably sell better than Fallout would sell because it's remaster of better game (than F4) that become cult classic, and Fallout in March would be again be 1.5 half old games, Skyrim Remastered will be 5 months old game.

Well porting PS4/XB1 game on Switch will be definitely be easier than porting on 3DS that has very very weak hardware and has two screens...Switch is getting new 3D Zelda and Skyrim, that definitely says nothing, :)

Also, Bethesda is probably testing the waters as well. THey have not supported Nintendo since the NES days, and because of that, have no precedent of their main titles selling on such a new and different ecosystem. If I had to guess, they are 100% making Skyrim SE, because Nintendo asked them to in some way (it appeared on the trailer for a reason) and to catter to the fantasy RPG audience it's sure there, just look at BotW hype. Next, they are also working on Fallout 3/New Vegas SE. They haven't anounced them for any platform, but considering the Skyrim sales, they would love to re-release this ones again. And if they are making the efford of porting, why not try it on the Switch, it wouldn't be that difficult or expensive considering the size and age of the games, even if remastered. Less probable are newer games like Doom, Wolfenstein, Dishonored and the like, because they recquire a bigger risk, and they need to know whether it's a good idea or not. Maybe it's not ideal, but hey, they are doing something. Better than expected, and way better than T2, they at least say something that's not pure PR.

The one I have no idea is the Elder Scrolls Online. Maybe they'll port it to try and carve themselves a better niche in Japan?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Its very hard to predict what other Bethesda game/s could be there beside Skyrim RE, but in any case they sound very exaited about Swich and they dont sound at all like they have only Skyrim for Switch, and they never were exatied about any Nintendo console before, actually they were very critical about past Nintendo consoles, and this Todd Howard guy is not same guy thats is known for hyping things just because PR talk. Of Course how long and how strong Bethesda support will be depends how much Switch will be popular and how much their games sale on Switch, but in any case it doesnt seems that Skyrim is their only Switch game for start.

I would love to see Fallout 3 and later Oblivion Remaster. :)
