Forums - Sales Discussion - NES outsells PS1 in Japan.

Tell me you aren't this stupid guys.

A PS2/3 doesn't count as a PS1 because it isn't restricted to just PS1 games. Compatability with a previous console doesn't make it that console.

No wonder so many people get confused with what a console is.

If you want to play more than the 30 bundled games you'll have to buy the other model obviously.

Well then please elborate as to how the NES mini is more of an NES than a PS2/PS3 is a PS1?

If people want to play PS1 games then can just pick up a PS2/PS3.  PS2/PS3 does what a PS1 can.

Does NES mini do what a NES can?  Or are you basing this soley on it's name/look and the type of games it can play?

Not sure who's stupid here.... >.>

Lol. Well that's one way to look at it. I would count the NES mini (and the eventual SNES and N64 minis), seperately from their original releases. They're retro-rereleases with limited features. Would we also count the two Atari Flashbacks and those Brazilian Mega Drives and whatever else towards their respective parent consoles?

I don't get the hostility in this thread. Insecure much?
The NES Mini is a slim version of the original console. It has all of the games that anyone ever played on the OG. It definitely is a NES.

I'm just sitting here and wait for for the PS1 mini.

So with all the aftermarket handhelds and consoles Mega Drive/Genesis has outsold SNES/SFamicon

SEGA WINS!

Yes we should. People are pretending that a console cannot have different SKUs with different features. By that logic we should count every SKU like Slim consoles extra because they don't come with the full feature set of the original.

Fair enough. This all will get pretty complicated then.

EDIT: Also, holy cr*p there's actually 7 Atari Flashbacks out there.

Nah, people just need to accept that NES Mini is a NES console and we're fine. Unless they want to take X360 Arcade and PS3 Slim out of the sales total and make their sales look even worse in comparison to the Wii.

Can we really compare a regular console with a plug and play one? I mean, we should compare the NES Classic to the Mini-Genesis and Mini-Ataris released over the years, not an propper mainline console. If Sony ever releases a PS1 Classic, then that would be another thing.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Doesn't have Wizards and Warriors II or Strider or Famicom Wars (way before Advance wars) or Metal Storm or Kabuki Quantam Fighter or even Captain Skyhawk.

I thought the OP was making a joke and it made me smile ... but it seems that he was serious.

That's kind of sad.
