Forums - Politics - China: No More iPhone Sales, Imports, Threatens Trade War Vs. Trump

http://arstechnica.co.uk/business/2016/11/china-threatens-end-iphone-sales-if-trump-imposes-stiff-tariffs/ Could also impact video game consoles since they're all made in China basically too. Enjoy paying 45% more for those. And China also holds a huge amount of US debt, if they called that in, the US would be in massive trouble. So it seems like Trump while being a puppet to Russia is trading that in for worse relations with China ... which is far worse overall. China is not only far bigger economically, they are bigger militarily too. Hope Trump is not this stupid, we could be looking at a massive global recession.

As much as this is an assholish thing to say, I find this to be win win situation. (Now I know the ramification for trade overall)

US military back with Nato will destory China's military in a heart beat.

Second, their economy isn't all that great when they depend on US.

Lastly China can't call in their debt instantly. China depends on America a lot more than vise versa. We can take our outsourcing somewhere else and let China go down. Also, China won't be as huge in the future since everything is becoming more and more digital with little need for hardware. China's time is running out.

China owns $1.2 trillion in US debt (only Japan I think has a little more), they have a ton of leverage to hurt the US.

US can't even defeat a bunch of cave dwellers like the Taliban (still running around last I checked). I'm not so sure any type of military conflict against China would go so smoothly for them.

I think you over estimate the will of NATO nations. Just like Trump might not defend Europe from Russia, majority of NATO will not go along with USA war with China. Let alone war not really feasible anymore with powerful nations.

You also really underestimate China ability to harm USA economically. They are codependent, and if China truthfully wanted it could firesale USA currency, and that would indeed hurt the States.

I don't see anything happening, besides one country playing hard ball with the other.

Trump has shaken the system and guess what guys? it's not gonna bring back your manufacturing or coal mining jobs. Everything is gonna be automated in the very near future. http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-36376966

I am starting to miss Hillary. I am all for "fuck politicall correctness" but Bannon? Really?

Also, OP, I suggest you take Apple out of the equation, you know how allergic the userbase is to anything Apple.

Btw, China is just giving you an example of one product that will be hit hard, many electronics are manufactured there. Almost all smartphones for example.

The politicians, Trump included, are all liars. Those jobs are never coming back and they know it.

So are you saying that the U.S. should borrow 2.6 trillion from China and then the U.S. would have leverage to hurt China?

There can't be overwhelming support for a blanket 45% increase on all Chinese goods in the House and Senate. This would kill any economic growth considering stores would be forced to up prices like crazy and most consumers are barely getting by as is.

No Taliban is in Shambles and ISIS is pretty much screwed at this point. We could exterminate them completley pretty much, but would cause a lot of innoncent people to die instead of just a few. If united states really wanted to we can just bomb countries off the face of the earth. Also, 1.2 trillion dollars isn't a lot because we only need to pay interest on it. It's like saying you're in debt/bankrupt when you have a mortgage for a house. As long as you pay your mortgage, you're fine. If we pull out of China they will eventually go bankrupt because their jobs and GDP is way too depended on USA. That and we could just impose sanctions on them.
