Why? What's a waste of money for a $250 home console? |
Guess it's my own personal opinion, it has two functions, using just one seems strange.

My fridge at home has a secondary function of bludgening homeless people to death. Even though I never use that function I don't feel the money was wasted.
It would be a waste of money if there were different home console and handheld models but since there is only one it's not like you have a choice in that matter. Wasting something implies having had a choice.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
"doing this thing of trying to be different with no clear advantage?"
Well said sir, well said.
Nintendo would be pretty much screwed if they try to make a traditional, powerful console like PS4/One. It doesn't stand a chance fighting against them. That train has already gone away. The only option for them to sucess is to do their own thing, and deviate from that competition. That's what they're doing, and I think that's clever. It's precisely what gave Wii/DS era those sales. Wii wasn't powerful, but it had a highly marketable concept. Just like the Switch.
I think that people who think that Nintendo would attract those gamers who were playing not-Nintendo consoles for years would jump to the Switch just because of it being powerful... are wrong. But I can see people jumping because Nintendo is offering a different experience.
I just hate the hybrid thing so much.
It seems they only did that to sell the "switch" gimmick.
2 skus playing the same games would be much better to my taste. I don´t play on the go. I´d avoid the portable part and wouldn´t have that useless screen 100% of the time sitting on the dock unused.
As is, I´m not buying a Switch anytime soon.

No problem, you can use it as a home console if it's up for your taste. What's wrong with the portable option? It's a consumer's choice in the end, and that's always... great imo.

I see nothing good coming from Switch, it`s sounds even worse than Wii U, and Wii U was an already horrible idea. Nintendo has a real problem for not wanting to follow tech trends, because of that they missed all generations after SNES with the excpetion of Wii. Why Nintendo keep doing it? Why they seem to want to fail so hard? Why just not make console with really good specs and Nintendo games and stop doing this thing of trying to be different with no clear advantage? Wii was a hit, but only Wii. Why is it so hard for Nintendo to just buy some nice components and make great software? I mean, I really don`t understand what Nintendo is still doing in hardware business for home consoles. Switch is heading to be a big disappointment for those who want to see Nintendo doing great again. Not going even for PS4/XB1 level, when those were already underpowered for 2013 and even more for 2016 is really pointless. |
It's almost as if you guys get offended because it's been well received so far! I see so many threads pop up of how the Switch is such a bad idea, but the general consensus is that it's probably the coolest thing Nintendo has done in quite some time...

It´s not a choice if I don´t have an option to buy a home only version.
It´s more of a xbox one kinect situation. Sure you can not use it if you don´t want to but it will be there staring you.
If you don't want to play on the go, just don't play on the go. Simple as that. No one's forcing you to do it and the Switch will work just fine when used only as a home console. You're also not wasting money. 720p screens in that size aren't expensive to make anymore. Hell, I just saw a 40" 1080p TV in the store in friday for 199 € retail price. Guess what Ninty pays for that little screen. Probably 5 bucks.
Also, maybe you'll find that the portable option might just work out for you in the end. Not for when you're out of the house. But just imagine, never ever will you have to pause a game for going to the bathroom. You can just take the game with you! Some nice weather in the summer outside? Take that sucker to the balcony and enjoy life! Really there are so many possibilities with this thing, I can't wait to have it!
Then again, I guess people have different tastes. If for whatever reason you want to play solely on your beloved TV, then ok, forget what I said. If you don't like Nintendo games and power matters oh so much, then ok, just don't get a Switch then. There will never be a console that will please everyone. So just pick the ones you like best, but there's no point in ranting about that one console isn't quite like the others.
Just my 2 cents.

Not the same, Kinect made the bundle way more expensive. The Switch dock is pretty much... a piece of plastic you can use to connect it to the TV. Maybe it has vents, but nothing really expensive since the components are on the handheld device. So that makes a big difference imo.
