Good to know Nintendo is finally making new friends again with the big boys of the gaming world, especially the one in the west.
I hope this extend to developers, Nvidia has such a huge relationship with western developers

They might not play around with their business , still this is the same Nvidia that said similar things about it's long term relationship with Sony , then suddenly decided it wasn't interested in console gaming no money in it and claimed they rebuffed Sony , when the truth was they didn't have anything to suit the brief for a X86 powered PS4 using an apu and couldn't design one in the time frame. |
Obviously not the same Nvidia since now the switch is powered by nvidia unlike the ps3 back then. Companies change a lot, that's why the ps3 was a pain in the ass for developers and now the ps4 is easy for developers. What I mean with "Nvidia doesn't play around with their business" is that Jen Hsun chooses their partners carefully cause all they want is profit, they are greedy but their chips are the best on the mainstream market. They don't care about Nintendo sentimentally, they want profit.

The PS3's GPU was from Nvidia , hence why Jen Hsun played the same tune about their Sony partnership back then.
Research shows Video games help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

oh fair enough, I thought ps3 was powered by ATI. Well hopefully the partnership is good between them.
I really hope this partnership lasts that much. 'Cause if it does it means (or confirms) that Nintendo's plan IS to develop their future systems in a way that the transition from one to the other won't make you lose anything (like in the mobile market).
And i think that's essential to Nintendo. For instance, how many have said that Nintendo can't attract Sony or MS' fans because they don't feel like leaving their stuff (trophies, games, etc.) behind? This is the best way that Nintendo can achieve that.
Also, it pretty much garantees BC for a LOT of time!
I like how he talks about Switch, too.
Yes, is known for his great PR skills, but i think there's something about Switch that makes him say that.
Personally, i still believe we will see some form of stream capability that will allow to play not just PC games on Switch, but maybe, also Android and iOS games on the TV (the other way around). Who knows?

They say that now, but if switch flops lol...

PS4 Pro isnt waste of money, they basically refreshing PS4 and give consumers more options, more affordable or more power one console. I think Nintedo will do something similar with Switch.
Actually Nintendo would from beginning offer Switch Pocket without dock and controller, but that would make confusion with whole Switch concept, but I definitely see them releasing Switch Pocket (smaller version of Switch for playing just on go, without dock and controller, for $100 lower price than OG Switch). I can see doing something similar for home console users, more powerful Switch that isn't portable and mobile. So basically having more different hardwares and options that or part of same platform. That would not mean there will not be new generation of Nintendo and only Switch, but with approach like that, new generations becoming less important, and I definitely don't see making totally new platform only 5 years after Switch, more it would something similar like going from Wii/DS to WiiU/3DS, just in this case exactly same architecture (Nvidia+ARM) that will allow backward compatibility and same development method, with some new concept or idea. |
I can see a portable switch device that still have the same 'switch' concept:
smaller joycons, that you can unatach an put them in the other side of screen, making it vertical. So, you can switch between horizontal and vertical screen. In horizontal, you play like the normal switch. In vertical, you can play DS/3DS compatible games, like a 2DS. Seems that 3DS is still relevant for nintendo, and still receives games. A BC would be good for keep this games relevant, and for keeping the switch concept alive.
Other option is switch between console and mobile. A no tv(screen always on hands) switch would favours also touch screen capabilities that cant be used on tv mode, and with no tv mode, this concept could use a lot of touch screen. Also, nintendo is entering on mobile with mario run, miitomo, animal crossing, FE and pokemon go. So, you could switch bewteen console mode and mobile mode. So still the switch concept.
Or both... either way, is possible to continue with switch concept without a tv.
Hopefully this means that in the future, there will be a home console with nvidia involved. Even a 1050 would be amazing for Nintendo. But knowing Nintendo it will be more tablets with mobile parts.
