40- Super Mario 3D World


I seriously did not have high expectations for this game, but I was pleasantly surprised by it. It's not necessarily the type of 3D Mario I want, but I still had a blast with many of its levels and trying to discover all the collectables. The final level is also from hell. Fuck it.

One of the most underrated games of the previous console generation. Has a great story with memorable characters and an excellent soundtrack. Only the gameplay brings the game down slightly, as it is a perfect example of adequate. There's nothing wrong with the gameplay, but neither is there much about it that's great. The boss battle are the highlight, and some of the surprises the game throws at you (a dungeon played entirely as a text adventure comes to mind) are very clever, but the game's combat is largely just alright.
