Forums - Sales - Rise of Tomb Raider PS4 vs X1 comparison

I mean, it's hardly surprising and many had predicted it would happen. TR 2013 on PS4 significantly outsold TR 2013 on XBO by more than 100%. On top of that? RotTR PS4 launched on a userbase in excess of 45 Million units while RotTR XBO launched on a userbase of 15 Million.

Its not really fair....

i didn't buy it at launch. It wasn't available on steam, no steam means the PC version really doesn't count as a "pc release" especially concidering all the horror on the windows 10 store....

Most people didn't want to support it on PC because of that decision, so the install base on PC was maybe... 5% of what it normally is (at best).

We all know the Xbox One version didn't sell super well at the time, the xbox one doesn't sell that well compared to the PS4 in generall and it was quite a hard time to launch with Fallout4 and stuff.

Its still really nice to see the PS4 version doing well this year, but it makes sense, the only big sony exclusive is the last gaurdian, which is coming later, and there are just the usual big games and remakes for the PS4 right now, thats a much better time to launch :D

Also its one of the best games for people who are buying a PS4 pro since it has many options for the new console.

So much spin here..... so what's your point exactly? Sales on the PS4 aren't great but instead the universe aligned in such a way to stifle sales across 3 MS platforms?

wtf? ps4 version outsold xb1? Isnt that a slap in the face to.... square, ms and crystal?

Not a slap to square/CD.... they are laughing all the way to the bank. The jokes on MS, they paid for exclusivity and not only did it not do anything for their console, it's gonna sell better on the other console a year later.

Stuff like these will just make it harder for MS to secure any kinda exclusivity agreement. Not like I think they would even try to do that again.

Oh, that is rich. Too bad SFV won't be able to at least do the same (release on another console and get a "second wind") These time/previous multiplat exclusive deals still make my head hurt but I'm no a businessman so it's beyond me whether MS made the right decision or not.

Well, if SFV launched on X1 today I don't think it would really favor them since their problems are more on the game itself them on the platform it was released or the size of the userbase.

That's a good point, but at least now the game has enough content at this point to justify a purchase, as oppsoe to day one. Still, I think you're right, RoTR is a game good enough to get that "Second wind."

So the 1 year exclusive strategy paid off after all. SE made extra money from MS for the exclusivity deal and now gets people to double dip to get the pro features on the ps4 release. A lot of free extra publicity as well.

I don't know about anybody else but, for me, with all of the features RotTR looks like the ideal showcase for the PS4 Pro. That's why I'm getting it, again.

When it's cheap enough I will be glad to buy (since I'll pick up pro around april next year, maybe it'll be together).

Yes it is, and yes it does... just because you weren't happy about it not releasing on Steam day one doesn't mean it didn't release, that's like saying the XBO and X360 releases don't count as the "console release" because it didn't release on PS4 until later...

was one of the first games on windows 10 store, the game didnt even download, the game didnt boot, the game was a mess. you needed te latest version of windows 10, you upgraded for it, downloaded everything, and then it would just download 100000GB untill your harddrive was full, crash and reboot your pc saying it failed.

The game didnt support sli, or fullscreen, or well any graphics card. Before it was patched and later released on steam, which all happened way later anyway, the game was not just a mess, but for most people not even bootable xD

Bayoneta, Skyrim and several other games launched broken on PS3 and still sold successfully, besides that we always hear that gaming on PC is not complicated anymore, anyone can configure and play smoothly.

Maybe so... but it was still released on the PC then, regardless of state lol :P That's like saying Batman Arkham Knight didn't release until... whenever they fixed it, lol, can't remember when that was, but didn't they take it off Steam to fix it? :P

Skyrim and Bayoneta still haven't released on PS3 and sell great anyway, even Oblivion and others.

The real truth is the game started selling when it was 1)fixed and 2)released on steam, sure, you can say it "officialy" released earlier and sold like crap, thats true. But the developer said it sold "much better" after that point, so when you are analyzing how a game did, obviously this should be taken into account, because else your viewing it too black and white.

And yeah, batman was even... worse... but since that game was pulled, and not for sale anymore, it never really released on the pc at that date

"much better" can be just PR, if we don't know how much... improving 200% on abysal sales could be meaningless.

Well perhaps now SF V would have a chance on content, but after all the bad press, userbase being smaller and the genre being bigger on PS, how much more would SF V sell on X1 if released?

It will depend on how many sales they lost due to late release and how much MS paid. I don't think SE made a bad deal, but there is a possibility that long term impact and revenue made were a loss.
