You say that, but if Mario Kart, Smash & Splatoon get superior "directors cut" ports onto the Switch then where does that leave the WiiU's Legacy? Even in hindsight it's becoming an irrevelevant machine. Of course there won't be as much hate flying at the thing, because as it won't be a current product people just won't care as much.

It's not that simple - pretty much everything good was ported from the dreamcast with superior versions, but it is anything but irrelevant in retro communities.

I guess so, my point of view is that if a Console doesn't have games you would go back to, it's irrelevant. I'll still boot a gamecube/emulator to play sunshine or mario party 6. I don't think I'll ever play a WiiU title again.

the only great thing about WiiU is that it had Nintendo games...

should have invested resources into making more advanced motion controls instead of the gamepad, that would make it an actual Wii successor

I love my Wii U and shall continue to have it hooked up even if I get a Switch (still on the fence with that one). I still have Yooka Laylee and BOTW to get for Wii U. my decision on Switch will be decided when I see more info in Jan, although the trailer was good.
