Forums - Gaming - Why is UC4 considered a better game than Rise of the Tomb Raider?

A lot of people are ignoring that Tomb Raider has no multiplayer!!! That alone should put Uncharted a few marks over Tomb Raider. At the end of the day you can't push across your opinions as fact, some will prefer U4 and some will prefer RotTR and you can only discuss you reasons why one is better than the other and even go into it deeper and break it down into categories like some people have done.

But it's a fact that U4 has MP while RotTR doesn't. It's not an opinion and it's a fact. You can argue that you don't care about MP but if you look at it objectively it's still missing in RotTR. So no matter how close the campaign modes are, U4 has a huge chunk of game that is completely missing in RotTR.

Ultimately gamers and reviewers have spoken and if you can't handle that, just get over it. I swear this is like the tenth U4 vs RotTR thread I've seen.

RotTR looks like to be a solid game although I probably won't play it. I had Tomb Raider reboot with PS Plus and only played 30 mins before I got bored. But from what I can see TR and RotTR are both good games and I wouldn't smash somebody's opinion if they prefer those games. But I don't think people can argue with the fact that U4 is more of a complete package.

What OP doesn't seem to understand is how he's rubbing people up the wrong way. People will prefer U4 and to be told "I cant see a single thing that makes it a better game than Rise of the Tomb Raider" is only just going to piss people off. It's just ignorance. It's not even a well set up thread, no reasons are given why one is better than the other.

RotTR has a co-op mode, now. Technically, it has multiplayer! In you face!!

Just kidding. 😏

Lol I didn't know that. That adds a bit more value then.

While I love that Tomb Raider actually has things like crafting, exploration and experience to gain (stuff Uncharted needs a lot more of). Tomb Raider is lacking combat. You get these little REALLY easy skirmishes of like 3 guys occasionally, and that's it. Graphics aren't impressing anyone either. I honestly prefer Rise of the Tomb Raider though, now that I've finally gotten a chance to play it.

I liked Uncharted's combat, actually. You can approach the enemy in quite a few ways. You could do the same in Tomb Raider but lots of times, Uncharted was more "by the skin of your teeth" doing things on the fly and marveling at the results. Tomb Raider seemed more methodical and required planning and setting traps. Of course, it had its reflex moments, too.

I guess I liked the feel of both. I'd have to totally disagree with you about the "little skirmishes of like three guys" comment, though. Even people in this thread have somehow come to the conclusion that Lara is more of a mindless killing machine than Nate (I disagree). Thehe fact is, RotTR has several moments where you can choose whether to engage the enemy and fight, pick off a few and escape, or avoid conflict altogether. And there's times where it throws 20 guys at you and you have to survive.

Uncharted 1-3 (and Golden Abyss) had their quiet moments but a lot of the times, I felt like I indiscriminately was killing as many guys as Gears of War! I wanted it to be less of a third person shooter and more of a third person adventure. In Uncharted 4, they granted my wish...and I kind of regret it. It has fewer skirmishes but they feel more meaningful than before and more intense. But at the same time, they were far between and I spent a lot of times wishing I were killing nameless badguys instead of just walking through beautiful scenery listening to the Nate and Sam comedy hour.  Trying to make it last, I'd play for an hour a day, when I first got the game and sometimes experienced no action at all!

But yeah, as I said in another thread, if somebody asked me which game to buy, I'd say get Uncharted 4. It's more accessible, less complex, and prettier to look at. Hell, it even has fewer glitches! I can see why people like it more. But I personally like RotTR more. It just feels deeper and doesn't ever make me feel like I'm wasting time waiting on the next "good part". Every animal I kill, even coin I find, every relic I uncover, every side quest i fulfill feels like I'm making my character better. That goes a long way with me.

I played only ps3 tomb raider, and a few of old uncharted games.
tomb raider is far better imo.
you can go back to places you already went and explore with the new items and discover things, tombs, upgrade your stuff, it feels like a metroidvania.

They are both considered great. I'm not sure there is an answer that anybody can really provide. Really. So, I think it's probably

Still no mention of multiplayer? What the hell have you guys been doing in the Uncharted games?

All 4 games had me on a pinch trying to play on crushing.

Oh yes, I remember those instances. I hate when they bob and weave when you have a perfect headshot lined up and then bury you in bullets. Tomb Raider tried to copy the armored guard and it didnt work out as well. ROTR was a bit better with less of the same NPC's running up to you. Tomb Raider has superior puzzles, but everything from weapon handling and actual gameplay have to go to Uncharted for me. Tomb Raider was just way too easy.

Did you find a specific UC to be more difficult on crushing? I kinda think UC1 was the toughest. 2 had that awful, AWFUL final boss battle though. Full red alert VGChartz question.

What did you dislike about U2's final boss battle?

I thought U1 was tough mostly because the enemies took an ungodly amount of bullets to kill. Plus I sucked at making head shots. This was back in 2008, though. Haven't really played it since then. I'm planning to get the collection soon, though.

It's been a while. Just about 7 years. :)  Sorry I can't be specific. I just found it difficult in a way that exceeded the boundaries of even the most challenging parts of crushing mode. It was both unique and terrible. I'm sure some players blasted it. In the end, I remember it being a very strict method, with little room for hiccups, that got the win. Not much room for improvisation. And it felt a bit cheap next to the rest of the game. That's my take from 2009.

UC crushing is always full of bullet-pigs. :) My memory is not clear on whether 1 is worse or not, but it was bad for sure.
