Forums - Sony - So PS4 Pro will make games look better even on 1080p screens, but..

Most launch games will simply be more stable, where they otherwise dip in FPS or resolution (BF1/Titanfall2) and have better AA or supersampling by the sounds of it, but heres one game that will actually have texture, lighting differences as well as a bump from 900p, to 1080p.

Thanks, you posted it while I was writing the previous comment, so didn't see it. Well there certainly is a little difference, but do you think we'll see a lot of these kinds of improvements in the coming years?

Same video as teigaga posted. But thanks :)

It will be more common. The director of FFXV said they simply didn't have time to really make use of the Pro. The same will go for most devs so they'll simply throw some GPU expensive fx on Pro versions and say "there, done!". The further we go into the generation, the bigger the difference will become between PC and PS4 builds and thus the more Pro will be utilised at 1080p. Battlefield 1 may be the show stealer for PS4 Pro, I look forward to seeing it.

Will be a case by case basis. Some games offer modes specifically tailored to 1080p, others do not. For games that simply "improve image quality" it's basically equivelent to really nice AA. Other games feature better lighting, reflections and more ground decoration which will be noticeable on 1080p displays.

Your best bet is to look at games you are interested in and see what enhancements pro actually gives. If it's a game that just recieves a resolution bump then you have to ask yourself if smoother edges or possibly going from sub-1080p to 1080p is worth it for you.

But why haven't we seen any of that?

I expect many comparison videos from digital foundry and the like after the 7th of nov, as that's when the nda will afaik be lifted

I think it's pretty obvious, Sony want to keep their message focused. The primary reason for the Pro is for 4K gaming and Sony want to hammer this point home.

Look at FFXV on the PS4Pro compared to the Base model, they've added in extra higher res textures and also the foliage in the game has been turned up because the system can handle it... this foliage will be visible on a 1080p TV on a Pro and won't be visible on a Ps4 base model, because it isn't being rendered. I mean... you can say you aren't sure will people see a bush on the ground, but it might be because Sony are being "Shady"?? about it.

And yeah with FFXV again, frame rates improved all over the place over the base model version of the game, I mean it doesn't matter again if you're on a 1080p screen or a 4k TV you are going to notice smoother frame rates.... I hope?

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

That is because the gain on 1080p won't be much, and that could be one of the reasons Slim was launched "together"

Any footage of this?

I'm sure that we won't be able to see a >two fold increase in GPU power on our peasantry 1080P screens d: anyone with a decent idea of how computers relatively scale knows that this upgrade is relatively substantial. 1080P owners will be fine

How Killing Floor 2 runs on PS4 Pro on a 1080p TV:

- Killing Floor 2 runs at an increased frame rate when using a PS4 Pro on a 1080p display.

- The extra memory on PS4 Pro allows us to activate our ultra textures that have higher resolution over the standard PS4. These high-res textures will be used whether the player is playing on a 4K TV or a standard 1080p display.

- When playing on a 1080p TV, Killing Floor 2 is effectively super sampled, resulting in much higher quality, smoother anti-aliasing.

Rise of the tomb raider has an enhanced mode in 1080p/30fps on PS4 pro a mode with an unlocked framerate with the same graphics as the regular PS4. So even if you don´t have a 4k tv the pro will enhance your 1080p picture. Beisdes rendering a higher piture than neccesary causes supersampling which improves picture quality.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

I'm 1000% more curious to put Bloodborne on and checking if there are no fps drops when doing some coop/invasions.

I guess 1 more week to find it all out :)

Don't games need patches for any improvements to occur? I'm still not clear on this.
