Forums - Nintendo - Slate: The Nintendo Wii's pitiful online gaming service

It's quite obvious that Nintendo don't want to have an online service, but feel they have to. They're still trying to push the 'family gaming' thing. 13 year olds screaming Ni**er over headsets on Brawl would ruin that somewhat.

LOL, ive been called some things............................, and one had the pleasure of being owned by like an 8 year old on Halo 2, not cos im noob, but because he is on like everyday all day, he told me he gets "home schooled.

I know that the online is not great, but I really do not care that much. I am not a big online player and the thought of having to pay for something better that I would use on a few occasions just does not interest me. I think there are some things that I would like to see better, but I just do not know that it is a necessity at this point.

I have played my Wii online more than I have my 360 and PS3 online combined.

My main thing is stupid lag. I wish you could just use an Ethernet cable.

I don't really undestand the writer. It really seems like he's grasping at straws especially while complaining that the computer takes over for players who drop out of a match.

The part on page 2 where he spends almost an entire paragraph talking about something completely unrelated just to finish it with a shot at the Wii only makes me less inclined to care about his opinion.

There's a USB adapter for that.  Do all of the lag complaints forget this exists?

I have that, lag still exists I'm afraid, seems to just be a issue with Brawl, and not the internet service in general.  But then again if the internet is laggy for brawl it might as well be laggy for everything (because that's all I want to play)

It  won't mattter if all 4 players aren't using it.

Nintendo definitely has delivered a second rate online service and experience. And it's not all for the 'safety of children'. Opening up the online service to more games, more data (i.e. voice/video), and creating a robust service would cost a lot of extra money. And Nintendo isn't too keen on spending their cash on things they consider to be unimportant in the long run. Damn cheap bastards...

Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.

There is that.

Also, Nintendo really can't just make an extensive online service without costing a lot of money (and it's not as though they can afford to subsidize it, unlike the other two companies).

I'm assuming that's what the pay and play services is hoping to fix. Nintendo might have realized they can't do this right for free, so they charge for some games to hopefully fix the online for all of them.
