Forums - Nintendo - I see a problem with NS switch

As much as I shit on Gamefreak, that's clearly not true. The production values on the last two generations of Pokemon vastly surpass the generations before, so I have no doubt they will rise to the task. Plus, top down is just a perspective. Pokemon literally just needs to add a controllable camera for most of the AAA work to be done. They can just use the Pokemon models they already have for the overworld at that point since they are already of such a high quality. They'd really just need to upgrade the character models one more time to more closely match the sugimori art, and the rest is just overworld stuff.

I'd say that they also need to put in voice acting, but if that's in your metric for "games we're imagining," then all Nintendo platforms have sucked, because Nintendo consistently fails at conforming to that standard in all but a scarce few cases.

The exclusive games will be fine. Everything else, though? It's looking rough, and if you like platform that won't loose strong first party support after two years like the Wii U did, that should terrify you.

I don't think so

Nintendo already has the home console games so making those impressive on the Switch doesn't require them to start from scratch

Pokemon will definitely take advantage of the new hardware, since the Sun/Moon 2v1 battles already have dips :/

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

Honestly, many of the handheld 3DS titles started their life as console series (Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest) and get console versions - which are basically HD portable games. I don't see any reason why development costs would need to skyrocket. Because of the resolution of most smartphones, mobile games are already simple projects running at high-res. I see no reason why projects like that wouldn't come to the Switch.

Have you ever seen Steam? Apparently it is still very possible to make and release bad looking games on powerful hardware.

First, instead of dividing the software output in two, it's just all in one system, that alone is a major difference. Nintendo also avoids redundancy in their developement cycles (no more two mario karts, smash, 2D and 3D mario...) and that can help them working on other games. All their engines and assets will work on the switch, no need to adaptem to massive different hardware. And 3rd parties don't have to choose between handheld and home console anymore when making ames for them. Those are major differences, and they more than compensate the need for more complex games.

Also, it was alred time to make an HD engine for MH. It's been long overdue.

This is so flawed thinking it is not even funny. Simple question, what happened to Sony's output after they stopped supporting PSP or PSV? Nothing noticeable.

I think I get his point

It's not going to be easy for devs that have been working with n64-psone era graphics on small screens to something bigger, sort of HD that has to look good on a big TV. Wasn't easy for Nintendo main studios to jump from Wii to Wii U without some developement troubles and I don't expect it to be easy for devs that have been working on 3DS to support something that Nintendo says it's a homeconsole.

Obviously, support will be way better than Wii U and hopefully on 3DS level, but people get way too excited and are too quick to assume NS software will be Wii U+3ds

This is basically what I meant 😅

Sony never supported the handheld space as much as Nintendo. Sony's PSP output is smaller than Nintendo's DS one, and Sony's Vita output is smaller than Nintendo's 3DS. So the diffeence in output is less noticeable. Also, consider how many Vita games are ported to the PS4, that is a considerable amount.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

If a handheld developer (lower budget) release a game for the 3DS they could easily ask the full price for it. But if they release the exact same game for the PS4 this will be another story. People will automatically compare it with games like Uncharted or any (high budget) console games. How much are they willing to pay for the game? This will be a major problem for the handheld-devlopers AND the Switch. Are they going to stay on the 3DS or are they gonna take a huge risk on the Switch with minimal profits.

Other problem is that you don't buy console games to play it on a tiny screen, I think it is a waste and people will realize it sooner or later. The immersion of a big screen cannot be replaced by a little screen. But maybe Im wrong, time will tell...

I think GameFreak will do fine enough. It remains to be seen if that's going to be the case..

I see your point. It clearly applies to MH as you mentioned. Other must be FE from IE or SMT from Atlus.
