Combining the left overs of handheld market and console market should still make it more successful than console users only. Now if Nintendo is going to pull a Microsoft and make all their games cross compatible with mobile phones, then no.

I doubt they would do that because that is why they chose to make a hybrid console.

As for sales every console is a seperate one and the performance of it's predecessor doesn't say much for the next console. The PS2 sold great yet the PS3 was a disaster for quite some time. The Gamecube wasn't exactly on fire but the Wii was.

As for specs it's closer to Wii U than Xone, it really isn't that hard to see why people compare it with Wii U. The graphical quality will of SWITCH games won't be close to PS4 or Xone games. It will be a bit closer at best, it still misses a teraflop compared to the regular PS4. It also misses some RAM, but perhaps the CPU is a bit more powerful.

As for third party support if you remember the Wii U is launch it's not stupid to remain sceptical. The NS is a promising concept, although it remains to be seen how well the homeconsole games om the go can be a successful formula.

I can see the tablet having limited battery life and getting hot during demanding scenes. The detachable controllers are great for multiplayer although the buttons are very limited. I don't know enough about the games to be excited or sceptical I will wait that one out till January.

It is rumored to only be 0.3 TFlops away from the XB1. That is only if the Switch uses the minimum amount of the NVIDIA TEGRA chip. Even with 1 TFLOP it is still closer to the XB1 than Wii U. As for RAM, the PS4 has 5.5 GB of RAM for games where as the Wii U is close to 3 GB of RAM for games (MAYBE BASED OFF OF RUMORS). So it is actually somewhat close to XB1 and PS4. Also take into account that carts may not need as much RAM.

A hard drive is about as fast as an SD card that's why every game on Xone and PS4 is installed on the drive. The Nvidia shield, with a tegra X1 has 512gigaflops and is closer to the Wii U than Xone. If the Switch should be $300 I doubt it has the most powerful mobile chip in the business. Anyway we also need to know other variables before we can reach a conclusion and the CPU is a big part of that.

It has been rumored that the Switch is using the Tegra X2.

I find it very hard to swallow that the most expensive not yet finalised mobile GPU is used in a tablet that is supposed to be affordable. Even with a docking station and the controllers. The Tegra X2 should already be mass produced to be in the Switch by now since it has to sell at least 1.5 million units in the first month. Which equals to roughly 10.000 units each day already.

The specs has been released for the Tegra X2 so it has been produced. Nintendo could have paid NVIDIA to mass produce the chip solely for the Switch. A rumor came out today from a Japanese journalist that it is the Tegra X2 that is being used, but we do not know yet.

If it's a Nintendo console, it will be compared to past Nintendo consoles :p

If the launch lineup is great, it should preform very well for it's first month for sure

We live in a world where people compare handheld sales with home console sales. Nothing is too different to compare.

That said, the Switch will have a lot more sales than the Wii U because it's a handheld.

Hey Vivster! The Nintendo Switch is advertised as a home console, not a handheld. It is not like the PS Vita where the Vita TV showed a person connect their Vita to the TV. The Nintendo Trailer showed them switching from TV to Portable, not Portable to TV.

You think the average consumer is interested in  what Nintendo likes to categorize it as? It's a tablet you plug into your tv. That's a concept people easily understand and that's what I guess it will be used as most of the time since Nintendo's audience is primarily handheld users.

Which is why it will sell more than the Wii U. Because there is no other handheld anymore Nintendo's fans can indulge in.

According to this source the X2 has 1.5 teraflop of computing power. This is 16 bit or half floating point however. Gaming uses 32 bit or full floating points. The Xone is able to render 2.6 TFLOP using half floating points and 1.3 Tflop using full floating points. There was a thread lately about the PS4 pro being able to render 8.4 TFLOPS using half floating points. Anyway if NS uses X2 it gets to 0.75 TFlops leaving a gap of 0.6 TFLOPS, which makes the NS a bit more powerful than half a Xone, without taking many things which are pribably in favour of the Xone into account. Considering how games will look and the frame rate and its stability for third party games.

When I first look at the commercial, I see a home console, not a portable one. I can take the home console on the go. Not vise versa. If they advertise it as a portable console you can plug into the TV then you may have a point. They advertised it as a home console you can take on the go.

Regardless a 0.6 TFLOPS difference does not make the system as weak as people make it to be. Obviously other factors come into play, but why would you say XB1 has the advantage when it comes to the other factors?
