To all the people comparing the Nintendo Switch to the Wii U, the two consoles are too different to compare in terms of nearly everything. There are a bunch of people comparing the Switch to the Wii U and saying that the Switch is Wii U 2.0. Although there are tiny similarities, they are still very different. Concept, Games?Third-Party Support, and Success and here's why:
Let us start withe the concept. The main function of the Wii U gamepad is the availablity of a second screen. The Switch does not act as a second screen. Nowhere in the trailer did the Switch act as a second screen. The Switch is either a home console on the TV, or a portable console on the Switch itself. No in between. The Wii U Gampad could have been used as a home console on the TV, or a semi-portable console as long as it's within a specific range of the Wii U, or as a second screen to the TV, so like the DS/3DS. Second, the Switch uses traditional controls. No motion control, no touch control, not VR, no whatever. Yes, the JoyCons can be used seperately or horizontally, but it is not necessary. If you want to use it like you use Xbox or PlayStation controllers, you can. In terms of graphics, it is a bit unknown as to what the Switch can do. The most recent rumors suggest the Switch displays 720p on the console screen, has 4GB of RAM, uses 16 GB Carts as a STANDARD, and can support SD Cards. 720p makes sense to consume battery life on the Switch, but still looks great. MAYBE 1080P ON THE TV SCREEN. 4GB of RAM is actually very convenient since probably only 1GB is for the OS. That leaves 3GB of RAM for games and since it uses cartridges, that helps provide some more room. SD Cards range in size, but still gives extra hard drive. There are a bit more aspects, but those will pop up throughout the thread.
Next are the games. The Wii U only had one big Nintendo IP at launch which was New Super Mario Bros. U. Although it sold millions of units, NSMBU is not seen as a special or hyped game and it was seen as just a port of past NSMB games. In addition to NSMBU, there were ports of multiple third party games. Some were better than others but a good amount of third parties lacked features that the other consoles had. The Nintendo Switch already has Zelda: Breath of the Wild at launch. That alone is more of a system seller than most of the launch games the Wii U had. By the looks of things, third parties seem to be really interested in the Switch. Nintendo released the third party support list and it looks really good. Again, a list is different than actual games, but it is a good start.
So why do I mention these things? People are saying the Nintendo Switch is just as doomed as the Wii U was, because of the lack of graphics and third party support. When it comes to graphics, the Nintendo Switch MAY not be as powerful as the XB1, but it most likely will be very close. In terms of games, third party support LOOKS good, and it has the Zelda confirmed. People fail to realize that the Wii U had a bunch more problems. The force of using a second screen, touch screen, motion controls, launch games were few and honestly were not that great, a whole different architecture than the competition, concept was much more confusing and so on.
Hopefully, the Nintendo Switch is successful, but comparing it to the Wii U is not the smartest, because they have different concepts. Anyways, I want to see what you guys think of the Nintendo Switch and what are the pros and cons of the console in your OPINIONS!!!
