Doubtful, maybe they'll push for one of the starters (and in that case, would most likely be this one) but I doubt it would happen in the first place..

Greninja is nowhere close to the Charizard popular level lol. I personally expect Decidueye to be more poupolar than Greninja as well, but Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur are the most poupolar starters ever.

Want to bet if SSB port has at least 5 newcomers Decidueye will be one of the them? :p

There is a difference with what is popular though. Your bringing nostalgia into this, worldwide people kno more about blastoise/venasaur/meowth/ and many other gen 1 and some gen2 pokemon. But within the community (at least pokemon or people up to date with the franchise) greninja is the only one in past couple of gens (with lucario being a second) that doesnt need to be as popular as charizard/pikachu/mewtwo because of gen 1.

 

Point is Greninja is as popular as the others now. Its even in SSB which itself puts it ahead of the competition

I'd argue that Greninja is even more popular than Charizard nowadays. But like you say, many people - not necesarily Pokemon fans - Would recognize Charizard before Greninja simply because its Gen 1. 
I'd also throw in Scizor into the mix of current popular Pokemon.

To be fair, Decidueye looks like freaking Robin Hood so I think that could lead to some really high levels of popularity.  And I would love to see him in Smash, could have a very unique move set and awesome design.

Sure, these are the best starters since, probably, gen 3 or 4. Decidueye is the highlight imo.

Nope! Also Smash doesn't have to have a rep for every Pokemon gen so there's no guarantee it'll have any from from gen7, thus I advise against expecting it as if it's a sure thing.
