Tell them you just bought SSBB and it won't play it. They may end up repairing it for free if you're lucky.

This can work, but you actually need to own a copy of SSB:B because they require you to send that along with your console. Also, when I sent my Wii in it took 6 business days (2 day shipping to Nintendo, 2 days at Nintendo, and 2 day shipping back). Nintendo did cover all costs associated with the repair, including shipping both ways, but they only offered 2 day shipping =(

This actually worked for me. I'm getting mine back tomorrow. You need to own brawl and send the disc in with it.
Kenzo, have you ever registered your Wii on Nintendo.com?
If you do, it adds an extra 3 months to your Wii warranty. Maybe it can give you an extra 3 months, then you can send it in for free, with the console coming back with a fresh 1 year warranty.
Hey... it is worth a shot if you never registered.
I bought mine at launch as well, original warranty expired sometime in early December last year, but the extra 3 months allowed me to send it in in January, then again in March this year.
NVM - I read a few posts up and saw he already called and it paying to have it repaired. Oh well... save the registration for next time... if it unfortunately comes to that.

Then Nintendo kindly responds by saying, "Well sir, it probably doesn't run SSBB because your disc drive is dead."
That won't work in this situation as it wouldn't be the fault of SSBB. Also remember, it ate his Zelda...

The warranty time period for European wii systems is indeed 2 years. I've had the same problem with my wii (not reading some discs). Sent it to the Greek Nintendo 8/12/07. One week later they called me informing me that due to a serious problem it had to be sent to the German Nintendo. They gave me a new wii in order to be able to play with friends and family during the holidays, that's what they said. The gave it to me under one condition though. I shouldn't connect the wii to the internet.
On January 8th, one month later, I received back my wii via courier service and gave back theirs. Opening the big envelope I realised that they didn't send me my wii but a new one with a new wii number as well. The wii friends list was nowhere to be found, but all my vc games were waiting to be redownloaded and my balance reamained intact.
I certainly felt very satisfied with their free service.

Problem is that according to Kenzo's profile, he lives in the US.
Europe seems to have much better warranty plans than we Americans do... I hate this Country. :p

You pay half the price in the first place and your games are actually affordable! See Whatever and TheBigFatJ's posts, it works. People have had their entire Wiis replaced free under the guise of Brawl problems.
