I remember games like "A link to the past" taking me weeks, more than a month, when I was a kid. But a new game such as "Twilight princess" takes me a week or maybe two to complete.
Are games shorter now or am I just getting better?

A combination of both? Seriously, games i thought were super long in the past, I can fly through now.

I don't mind it. I think about 10 hours (less if with mp) is fine for me, cause I can get bored of the same thing after a while.
What he said, I spent only two weeks on SMG, although it did take 25 hrs. I think games are long enough although if you're really pro I can see why games may be getting shorter.
Manchester United 2008-09 Season - Trophies & Records
I think its a combination of 3 things:
- Many games were harder in the past making them take longer, i think they made them easier to attract a broader audience then the hardcore gamers (some games also feature different difficulties to do that)
- Games are now more expensive to develop thus making them shorter cuts costs
- The companies purposely make the games shorter so that people buy more games, if you complete your game in 4 hours u then need to buy another game to keep entertaining yourself
I definitely prefer games that I can finish, and like Soriku, I seem to be finishing every game I get, whereas before I barely finished any at all. I think it is beacuse now I have to pay for my games, and I want to feel as though it has been worth it, and I have got my money's worth
+1 for lultor, his 2 first point are correct.
but there are still long games around :
Sins of the solar empire = multiplayer only = infinite life

You're just getting better. ALttP is actually much shorter than any 3D Zelda. (Though it still takes me roughly 50 tries each time to beat that damn bat boss - the one with conveyor belts and spiked walls...)
"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

maybe the average time you play per week has increased? like you play 20 hours now and only 10 hours some years ago? makes the "weekly measure" get cut in half, you know?

It's not just simply a matter of us getting better at games. It's also a matter that we're learning the logistics of the universe belonging to each series. That is the reason we keep going back to those IPs no matter how often we've seen them. They always have a sense of familiarity because there are always basic fundamental issues that carry over from game to game.
Of course, this also means we can run through those games much faster than their predecessors.
