Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft Calls Scorpio “The Only Console” Capable Of “True 4K” and “Hi-Fidelity VR”

"The first and only console to enable true 4K gaming and hi-fidelity VR"

I'll wait to see what the PS5 have to say about that.

Well the PS5 is a ways off yet and the Scorpio is available right Next December if all goes to plan

Still though, when it came to some of Spencers "I'm just listing off features the X1 has, I'm not trying to take part in console wars stuff with my superior system, just listing off features" Followed by "THEIR 4K ISN'T REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL, ONLY OUR CONSOLE IS HI DEF AND REALLLLLLLLLLY 4K, JUST WAIT FOR IT U GUIS, IT'S THE REAL CONSOLE AND THE ONLY CONSOLE"

I mean... there isn't even a defense of that surely using the same argument? he is just listing off pipe dreams that he hopes the system they launch more than a year and a bit away will have those features? and he is comparing them to PS4 base model games only since the Pro has already been shown to have a number of games running 4k native as well.

I'll be honest though I'm with Mummelman on this, I'd much rather them pump that extra juice into a rock solid 1080p/60fps experience with really nice looking settings applied, sort of like the extra detail they pumped onto horizon using the pro power boost, I'd happily take nicer looking 1080p than barely scraping by to 4k just for the sake of pleasing digital foundry if I'm honest.

Aren't they not going to make developers have their games run at 4K? So won't they also have games that aren't 4K?

Microsoft is so weird with their marketing. There's just a lot of contortion going on for them to get statements like that to sound a certain way without being flat out lying.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I'm hoping for the best with Scorpio (including a better name) but right now, all we have are promises. Show me something.

It's like a guy coming up to a girl and saying "Yeah, your boyfriend has a house and a car but next year, I'll have a bigger house and a nicer car!" See you next year, then.

It's a true statement, the ps4 pro can only do a checkerboard solution to come close to 4k gaming. SO not a single game on ps4 pro will be a natively 4k experience, which is true. BECAUSE it's simply not powerful enough to render it.
Scorpio will beable to do true 4k gaming if they do indeed have the specs they are touting if not slightly more when e3 2017 happens.

Except that's not true at all. The Scorpio will almost certainly hit a native 4k much more often than the Pro (similar to the PS4 with 1080p), but the Pro can (and reportedly already has) hit that mark. Unless every X1 title runs at a native 4k, in which case they can argue a roundabout definition, what they're saying is wrong.

They'd have been much better off saying something like "the most capable 4k system ever".

Always remember their original pitch of uncompromised 60fps/4K. Don't forget it.

At least we know the Scorpio specs won't be lower than they already teased: 6TFLOPs, 320GB/S bandwidth, and what looks like 12GB RAM. That is a hardware upgrade worth looking forward to for a console platform.

I don't follow the mindset that  the Pro is a great upgrade and yet the much more powerful Scorpio won't be. It's silly.

If Sony said 1080p makes you a better gamer to mock X1 lack of it. I don't see the problem with boasting about how their platform is better designed to achieve 4K.

Well, when Phill said their console (Scorpio) would be better prepared and would have less compromisse to deliver 4K that were no issue at all, because the power difference would grant that. But when they are lying about PS4Pro not having any native 4k them it's not the same (and now with 4k you will be able to play halo 4 times better than on X1, everybody will do HS =])

Its fair to argue MS's word choice is bad given PS4 Pro will have some 4K content.

I'm not sure what's worse. MS's bad word choice, or the 4K push on a platform that struggles with 4K.

LOL they are getting pretty desperate here. They haven't even displayed a functional Scorpio. Simply a black screen telling people of its supposed specs. They do know the PS4 Pro already has native 4k games coming out yeh?

Tetris and Remasters of old PS3 Games are not the games in 4K what people expects now from the PS4 Pro! Mayor AAA Titles will only be upscaled to 4K. But Sony markets the PS4 Pro like every game will be in native 4K which is in my opinion false advertising!

Sony have been very transparent about their checkboard 4k, they've gone into great detail about the process through which the image is created (it's some pretty interesting stuff). As long as they avoid the word 'native' in any instance where checkboard is used, they're in the clear.

Regardless, MS isn't claiming they're the only ones who can run [xyz] games at 4k, they're claiming they're the only ones who can do it at all on consoles. Your personal opinion on what 'counts' doesn't stop that claim being flatly incorrect (baring every single Scorpio title being a native 4k, in which case they can argue a roundabout definition. That's incredibly unlikely though).
